Hey @steenh , Phil says hi. We talked about hole in the rock.
Said it was on his top 3 trails ever run.

That's a pretty strong endorsement.

I know Phil has done a LOT more driving out there than I have, so when I say it's my favorite, that's one thing, if it's in his top 3, that's saying a heck of a lot more!

Say hi to him for me!

You guys officially decided trails to go along with the dates yet? We're planning our summer trip now and will definitely be in Telluride by Friday the 27th, but I may have a few extra vacation days this year and if so I'm trying to sell the family on turning our ~18 day road trip into 3 full weeks. HITR and Kokopelli both look like fun. If we did it I just need to find a place to drop the trailer for a couple days while we tent camp on the trail.

There is a local airstrip where we'd gas up a mile or two from the trailhead. It's used to store planes, boats, trailers etc... usually some really nice people manning it so that is probably your best avenue to store it. I can't promise they'd go for it, but you could look it up and give them a call. Certainly plenty of room there.

Cal Black Memorial Airport is the name. They are very friendly (based on my two experiences there). Both times at HITR, we have topped with their good gas before hitting the trailhead. They don’t gauge us too much either. They have plenty of room to hold the trailer for a few days.

How far is Cal Black Airport from HITR trail? On a map it looks like it's on the wrong side of the river hours away. Worst case I could drop the trailer in a BLM campground somewhere around Moab for $15/night.

It's also 23 hours to Escalante for me, so I'm not even sure I'd make it there in time if you guys are heading out early Sunday morning. (Given our trip back from Zion/Bryce last summer, I'm guessing more like 26 hours, since I'm limited to ~70mph with the trailer in tow). I'll make some decisions once you guys have finalized your schedule.

It is a lot closer than that. IIRC it is a 5-10 minute drive to the trailhead from Cal Black. Not far at all.

Is all this fun for only landcruiser 200s ? Just asking.
Very Hot time in July to travel through these areas!

Not solely 200's just mainly 200's - hell we've even had two rental jeeps in our group in the past years. We will have at least one 80 if not another this year

Last year was half dozen or so 200s and one 100.

The land cruiser destination club, as it has evolved from a small group of 200 owners meeting up, is restricted to 200s, but the MOAB Pre-funk is pretty much Travis' baby.
Having other model vehicles would be helpful in determining different lines and sharing technical knowledge/pros and cons between the years.
It would also be nice to have experienced trail leaders familiar with the trail, obstacles and vehicle capability needed to safely get through the trail.
Good spotters can be a godsend, bad ones will get you to the body shop or worse.....

OK, will keep a eye on this, just not sure of my July plans. I have traveled this general area and always amazed at the off-road opportunities.
Thanks!

I'm guessing you are looking at a map for Hole in the Rock "Road", not "Trail". That sounds about right for the road. Like Scott said, it's no more than 5-10 minutes.

I received permission from the general to get both front and rear lockers :grinpimp:

I probably mentioned this before, but when I picked my truck up from ACC a year ago after getting the rear locker, Dugan said "I'll see you next year for the Front", and well... a year later there I was.

Good call!!!

I only buy Cruisers with lockers installed in Japan. ;)

I searched trail and that’s what the AllTrails.com site showed but it’s certainly possible it’s marked wrong

You say that now... you'll be in a 200 one day :)

Probably soon after I fall in love with them while watching them work over HITR.

Pushing this back up to page one... have you guys decided on HITR or is the route still up in the air?

What’s everyone doing for lodging? Are you guys going to book hotels or are we going to be camping?
