:D I am not sure.. there needs to be alot of sober grinding to make it look good. :D

but thanks!!!

Oh Uncle Aaron...

This weekend is a good one to do some blasting in the shop if you still have a need to blast.

And I'm sure she will do just that in no time....

sounds good.. I will plan on that. I have parts ready. I just going to see grandpa on saturday morning. Ill give you a call at maybe noon.

wow. just spent the past 3 hours going over this entire thread for the first time. what a really neat journey. thanks for taking the time to post and thanks for doing Landcruisers justice.

I have said that I really wanted to repaint my rear bumpers and sliders as they are chipping really bad. so I pulled them off and my plan was to wire wheel them and re shoot. I bought the paint for them and the paint for the half doors on saturday.

well turns out wire wheeling did not work too well. so I decided to take them to the sand blaster. I brought them there this weekend and I was able to pick them up tonight. they look great. really clean. now I am waiting until some warmer weather so I can get my paint booth/shed cleaned out in order to spray etch primer.

my plan is to prime them, then spray them black. I still have SEM from the inside of the body left. I am going to SEM the step part of the slider and the inside of the basket of the rear bumper because I feel they will wear better with this product. I have been really impressed with it so far. so we will see. Pray for sun shine up north!!!

last but not least... Ted and I went out wheeling with his jeep buddies last weekend. LC stayed home as I still dont drive it in the winter salt but we took Teds little white TJ.. It was super fun and we pulled a few stock jeeps home and out of problems. This makes Ted feel good about himself!! (again GF must have been out of town or something because Ted could hang out and actually answered the phone when I called... weird.... Maybe everthing is not OK in dreamland... ) :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

what a shame to have 81 pages of buildup and not be able to drive it in the winter. C'mon man. If you wanted a collector car, get a collector car. You bought a Landcruiser! At very least drive it and wash the salt off after.

What was the point por-15 on the entire undercarrige if you are still terrified of rust? Sorry, nice 40 nun the less.

between salt, cold and snow it is not the best thing to drive here in the winter. no need to. I have a truck if I need 4x4. its a 8-9 month a year truck for me. trust me I need to do a better job of driving it period. maybe 3000 miles on in 4 years.... I would not call that a success............ :whoops:

I would call that success. If I lived where you do my cruiser would never see sunlight until the last snow fell and at least two rains had washed all the salt away. They aren't making these rigs anymore-no sense shortening its life simply to add miles. Driving in salt is what Jeeps are for.

Even here in New Mexico I don't drive my Cruiser after they salt the roads and our highway guys are amateurs compared to your blokes.

Sorry to say, but I agree. My old 73' will be parked during the winter months. The cold and salt here in Wisconsin just beat on it too badly. I have had 5 FJ's over the past 25 years and had a strong conviction that I would drive them year round and in all conditions... all 5 of them had issues during the cold. Maybe if I rebuilt the engines to make sure oil was getting everywhere adequately, but even then the salt is like acid.

Born and raised in Minnesota, fled a long time ago, and I agree with you. Nothing fun about watching your nice vehicles rot away from the salt they have to lay down because people don't want to drive on anything but bare pavement in the winter.

I finally was able to finish the “little” bumper project I had going.. well I lied.. I still have to finish the jack carrier bracket, but otherwise it is done. I had these sand blasted a while ago. Then the snow started falling again which halted the project.

So whatever coating came on these it was garbage, like the metal was not prepped correctly. Blasted and coated them with etch primer.

I wanted to shoot the sliders and basket with SEM coating. Same as I did on the inside of the tub. I like the durability. Blah blah… pics say it all.

they turned out so great... I am very happy... it took forever to tape them off but it was so worth it in the end.

Finally got it out for a drive on mothers day!

Looks great. What did you use for the swing-out spindles? I'm looking to modify my existing bumper and build a double swing out, I'd like to do something similar with the spindles, mounting them on the ends of the bumper as yours are.

Thanks.
