I'm interested in one but still can't sell the 60. I guess when I finally accept that nobody is going to pay more than $3K and I'm willing to let it go for that I might.

There's hope still bud. Just a couple weeks ago my brother and sister-in-law bought an '89 FJ-62 for $3900.

a buddy just bought a 93 FZJ80 from Cali with 6"slee lift, both bumpers and tire rack, sliders, factory diff lock, 35's, etc. for $5K. it looks sweet.:D

If you can't sell your truck to this guy then you will never sell it.

Still wanted: 4X4 SUV

Whoa! I could afford to sell mine for $3K if I knew I could buy an 80 like this one for $5K.

Make us a deal-96 Toyota Landcruiser

The only problem with the truck is a busted birfield. It does NOT have the F&R diff lock option.

The logistics of getting this one back to NM are a little complicated.

Did you talk to them? Could it be drug/winched onto a flat-bed? Then of course I'd need to enlist the help of a kind club member who owns a truck and flatbed capable of towing this thing. Gas, food, hotel...... It might be cheaper to find an auto transport company with the ability to transport non-functional trucks.

You're making it too complicated. Drive down in 1 long day with a friend/wife/Dad and take a tent if you don't want to rent a $50 room. The truck is in a location where you can swap the birfield on site. Take your tools and the parts to replace the busted birfield. If you get in and find more damage then pull the birfield and the inner axle on that side and the front drive shaft. Lock the center diff by putting the truck in low range and then pulling the diff lock fuse. Now you can drive it home in 2wd.

If you are doing this solo then arrange for the guy to pick you up at the Austin airport, take a cheap 1-way SWA flight down there with just the tools needed to pull the birf as described above, then drive it home.

If you are planning to transport the disabled truck then you should pass on this one.

I talked to the owner on Friday and I am 99% certain it is just a busted birfield. He is not knowledgeable and only knows that 2 shops told him the problem was in the front differential and that the first shop quoted him $2200 and the second shop quoted him $1700 (I might have those numbers off a little). He bought another vehicle and wants this one gone. There is nothing else wrong with the truck and it has a pretty good history. He is the 2nd owner and just bought it a few months ago. At that mileage, the truck probably never had a front axle service and the guy told me they kept driving it after the birf started clicking. It wasn't long before it busted on a full-lock turn.

You will have to move quickly as there will be someone that will grab this one. It doesn't have diff-locks but it would make a great DD/light wheeler. The guy's name is Brandon and he will take less... a lot less.

I had wondered about diasabling the front axle by simply removing the DS but couldn't see how to deal with the busted Birf, not realizing I could jsut remove the axle shaft/busted birf. I guess I was thinking about the unknown of a busted Birf, whether it's possible that it could damage the spindle/bearings if it was a major explosion, and then removing the axle would not help if the spindle/bearings were damaged.

Another option for getting it home.

Remove front driveshaft.
Remove front drive flanges.
Install freewheel hubs with the guts removed.
Deal with Birfield when you get home.

I'll even loan a set of hubs out for this.

You have to deal with the birfield immediately or you take a chance of the broken bits impeding the ability to steer the vehicle so there really is no advantage to try the selectable hubs.

Another option, just like you'd do if this happened on a trail run:

- remove front driveshaft
-remove both birfs and inner axles (full floater, gotta love it)
-button it back up
- unplug the factory hazard switch, move it over one space to the left (remove the blank first) and plug it into the factory CDL harness.
-push the Hazard button and lock the CDL.
-give money to seller

Drive home at 90 mph in 2wd while enjoying 17 mpg and laughing your ass off the whole time!

Why would you remove both birfields?

I'd remove both because nobody knows what the problem is. It could be a birf, both birf, broken inner axle or the diff. By removing both birfs and the front DS, the front is totally isolated and nothing spins; a true rear wd 80.

Or an easier thing to do as what Pappy suggested by using locking hubs or just remove the drive plates all together.

So when is this trip? This is my kind of trip: cigs, Red Bull, wrenching, grease, busted birfs, and um, Cruisers.

I'm in if you need help Marc.

Had a guy look at the 60 this weekend. Maybe sooner than I might expect. But, money talks and ...

My father is considering selling his 80 series, before he lists it on Craigslist, I told him I would post it up here.

97 Collector's edition, stock, gray (no e-lockers).

178k miles. Only issue i know is the passenger's side sun-visor doesn't stay up. Other than oil changes, I don't think he's done any additional work on it, and my guess it has its original head-gasket.

He's had it for about 1.5 - 2 years, and his time, probably in that time put in no more than 7k miles himself.

I think he is going to list it on Craigslist for $8k. If anyone wants to look at it, PM me.

Oh, this is going to screw with Marc's head big time......
