I’ve seen this in many fzj80 s, I know it’s the location of the diff locker but is this little red knob the diff locker just missing the physical switch?

I remember reading some stats that of all the 93, to 97 Land Cruisers that were imported into the USA, only about 7% came with factory installed front and rear lockers,Not all 80s had front and rear lockers. I'd suggest yours is one of the ones that don't.
I've seen the 7% number. But AFAIK, just repeated back and forth in forums. I have also seen 12%, but the conversations where that came up were discussing our local (Alaska) numbers. I have no way to validate either. From my personal experience, I think the number up here may have been closer to 20%.I remember reading some stats that of all the 93, to 97 Land Cruisers that were imported into the USA, only about 7% came with factory installed front and rear lockers,
I remember about 11 years ago i spent 6 to 12 months looking to buy a 93, to 97 Land Cruiser, I looked at Land Cruisers for sale in CA, NV, UT, CO, NM, TX, and AZ, For every 1 that i found that was 3X locked, i found 8 to 10 that weren't, The funny thing is, you would think that in the desert southwest with all the good 4 wheeling to be had, there would be alot more 3X locked trucks running around, I would have to say in my search, that just wasn't the case when i was looking to buy one,I've seen the 7% number. I'd expect that the market demographic buying brand new '80 series between the years of 1993 and 1997 were not really all that interested in the desert back roads. They were however interested in claiming that they could "go anywhere" in the snow on the way home in their luxury vehicle (between '93 and '97, the people buying brand new '80 series were not that same as the people who want them now.I remember about 11 years ago i spent 6 to 12 months looking to buy a 93, to 97 Land Cruiser, I looked at Land Cruisers for sale in CA, NV, UT, CO, NM, TX, and AZ, For every 1 that i found that was 3X locked, i found 8 to 10 that weren't, The funny thing is, you would think that in the desert southwest with all the good 4 wheeling to be had, there would be alot more 3X locked trucks running around, I would have to say in my search, that just wasn't the case when i was looking to buy one,
Ya, we had a name for owners like that, we called them country club clowns,They were however interested in claiming that they could "go anywhere" in the snow on the way home in their luxury vehicle (between '93 and '97, the people buying brand new '80 series were not that same as the people who want them now.![]()
