I've got a 1994 KZJ78 with chrome, electric outside mirrors. The chrome is pretty beat up and I'm contemplating replacing them or painting them black, I understand painting over chrome is less than ideal.
While searching for replacements, I noticed that the VDJ78/FZJ78/VDJ79 mirrors (part numbers 87940-60372 and 87910-60142 pictured below), are all black plastic and appear very similar to the KZJ78 mirrors. It appears that the VDJ78/FZJ78/VDJ79 are non-power, so if I went with these I'd lose the electric function which is no big deal. I really like that that VDJ78/FZJ78/VDJ79 mirrors are black plastic and I wouldn't have to worry about them chipping or peeling.
Any idea if they are a one-to-one replacement? I appreciate any insight.

I did this myself. Replaced the chrome blingy OEM electric mirrors with the manual black ones you are showing in the photos. Super happy with the manual black ones. You can order a blank plate 55547-90K00 and remove the mirror control switch in the dash.

Thanks for the details on the blank plate, I wouldn't have thought of that and had no idea it existed, I'll order the plate with the mirrors. Thanks again!

As an additional note, it looks like the recent face-lift 70’s have black mirrors that are electric… they kind of look like the FJ Cruiser’s mirrors though.

Thanks janyyc, I hadn't even noticed that, I got everything ordered yesterday. I very much appreciate the help and will update the post when the parts are installed.

Received the mirrors, new bolts and the dash (blank) plate yesterday. With the exchange rate here in Japan (Okinawa) it ended up being around $67 for everything. Installed them this morning and am very happy with how they came out. The original chrome ones were pretty beat up. I'm much more of a fan of the look of the black mirrors. Thanks to everyone who helped confirm that these would fit!
