why does no one use the mini truck powersteering pump on the powersteering conversion. I attained the whole setup including cooler off an 85 mini and dont see why i cannot utilize both pieces

PS

Coolerman used it I believe, and wrote it up on his site. I also used it on mine(thanks to Coolerman). I think some believe it is not strong enough to turn big tires esp offroad. But they will answer.:D Mine wont be used offroad for now

I have yet to actually drive my conversion, but I plan on just 33" tires, and no front locker. If it doesn't last I'll go the Saganaw pump route.

Natvet, how about posting up pics and information about your install?

"Natvet, how about posting up pics and information about your install?"

Will do... mine is slightly different from yours but the same idea. I will post them tonight or in the am when I can get them from my camera.

i dont have power steering on my trucks but have installed it on several 40s for other people using the stock pump.1 fj40 has 35s and front locker and no problems also a ton of guys are running mini trucks with 35s and 38s with no issues.this is mostly trail rides and mud holes very little rocks i geuss it depends on where you wheel and how hard you are on your truck good luck

anything is better than what ive got now which is nothing! ive got the 2-lo mod so steering on trail isnt too bad. how did yall mount the mini pump and where did u get the bracket. were u able to keep the stock cooler and lines that were attatched to them?

I believe the Sag pump has a higher pressure output which should give you a little more power assist. Beyond that, the sag pumps are cheap and available almost anywhere - this reduces your vulnerability if your stock pump lets go out on the trail somewhere IMHO.

I used the mini-truck pump bracket that came with the pump. I just welded an 'ear' on it and attached it to the F alternator bracket.

The web page is not complete so take it with a grain of salt and some imagination. ;)

You can indeed use the loop cooler and lines but I have not figured out where to mount it, I plan to use a small tranny cooler I have mounted to the radiator screen.

The remote reservoir I plan to mount to the radiator support, or as Jim C. suggested in another thread, the inner fender.

I believe the mini pump is very similar to the 60 series pump which is what I run on my 40 w/ 33x12.50 tires...

I do run a cooler. Running aired down in the sand through tight turns got it pretty warm.

I run the 62/80 (3FE) pump on my 55 w/ 60 series PS conversion - haven't pushed it hard yet

I'm running a standard P/S cooler - fits inside the front bib nicely and it's out of the way:

Toy pump pics

Here are some pics of my mini truck pump. Again simliar to Coolerman. I used the first pulley on the crank(closest to engine) to run the power steering. The original mini ps pump bracket was modified by to fit the F alt bracket. The top bracket was also fabbed(very easy).
I am a beginner so take these ideas in hat light.

Pic 1 bottom of mini ps bracket I moved original tab from where my finger is to the left edge. Added another bracket to the right that fit on the rear of the F alt bracket

Pic2 The front bracket (belt tension). The holes for the bracket are already there. Bracket is on engine side.

pic3 Front bracket mounted and used water pump bolt for another bracket that would allow you to tension the belt.

more pics

These are the pics of the pump mounted. I used washers to space the bracket to the exact location to make the belt straight (see pics). Then I measured the washers and fabbed a spacer out of pipe(no pic of spacer)

pic1 Mini ps pump mounted on engine
pics 2 same from the bottom see washers used for spacers then fabbed a good spacer

I have not mounted the gear box or cooler I am wating to put the tub back on then we will see:)

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Iron Pig offroad offers a mount for the minitruck pump that attaches where the smog pump usually sits.

No, the Mini pump is the same style used on HJ60 and BJ60.
There is a specific pump used only on FJ60/FJ55/FJ40. It is inferior to the later designed Mini/BJ/HJ pump.

I used the mini pump when I did my 60 series steering. Works great with 35s and a locker, but when I go ram assist, I will switch to saginaw for the better fluid transfer. Works great now. Search my name or their might be a link to my write-up here someplace.

thanks for the responces fellas very helpful

I've been running a mini pump with 37s and lockers without problems. I'm also going hydro assist with the mini pump, which I know will work for that since my buddy is running that setup on his.

nice pics

nice pics I am looking at all of these I can as I wont be living with the armstrong steering I have very long;)
