Got the compresser installed. Decided to mount it under the converter so I can grab the hose easy enough from the drivers seat and from outside of the passenger seat.

And I put the switch on the centre console and decided to cut another hole as incentive for another switch :)

A few more little updates :)

I started chopping my guards today and am so pleased at how they are turning out.

I rolled them over about 15mm or so, so it follows the factory crease in the metal. I think this will be enough as the tyres only nick the guards on funny angles when turning and flexing. Plus it makes the guards look as factory as possible as i dont like the look of heavily cut guards on 7*series cruisers.

Here is the standard guard

I decided to use a jigsaw to cut the guards, much neater than an angle grinder.

I then used a dolly and hammer and rolled the guards inwards for strength and for somewhere to attach the flares.

Here is the other side

DSC_0667.jpg

It only took me about an hour each side, and I am in the process of bogging in a few dents and painting them over so the edges will be finished off when i do the rest of the car.

And a few other little things i can cross off the to do list

I put this PVC pipe bend in to loosen the slack on the snorkle intake hose. The old one was really stretched and just didnt look right.

I managed to lose a bonnet stopper so i when i asked someone for a replacement (when looking for a fan blade) they wanted $20 for the little rubber bit. So instead I went to clark rubber and got this little stopper for $1, cut it in half, and shaped it slightly with the band saw.

Speaking of fan blades, this is what happens when a can of INOX happens to fall into your fan shroud

DSC_0675.jpg

And after hours and hours of searching this was the replacement blade

Oh one more thing i also got a VDO 24v gauge which will let me keep an eye on the 24v system.

Hi guys thought i should update this thread since my last year of uni starts today and i wont be doing much more work to the old girl.

I was planning to spend a bit of money in the form of 4.56 ratios and a rear ARB air locker, as well as a new chrome grille, limo tint the rear windows and factory flares but have decided against this to save up for travelling mid this year. After that i really think the project would have been done but for now I will have to leave it on the backburner. Im just glad i get to keep the shorty and go travelling as it was looking like i would have to sell the old girl for a while.

In other news I gave the shorty a bit of a freshen up by getting rid of all the dents and painting the guards. Its not perfect but it is a whole load neater than before. Also removed all but one of the stickers and replaced and moved down the low range boot to suit the body lift. I cut the old one up so much that i could see through the floor while driving!

I cut out some lower metal and used a bit of bunnings garden edging at the top so i could move the entire boot downwards, rather than just cutting into the factory boot to get it into low range.

And heres how the truck looks now, im going to remake my garden edge flares because the old ones are a bit ratty.

And heres how the guard came out.

The only plans now is to keep up maintinence, and fix a very annoying gearbox/transfer case leak. Im getting rid of a few things as well as the PTO winch if anybody is interested. Does anybody know if it is just a cover plate that needs to replace the PTO box from the transfer or is it something else?

A cover plate.

Just a few pics of the shorty on a Easter trip to Wedge.

I see that you're looking for ideas for your next bumper, and judging by the pics you posted, you like tube bumpers. Here are a few pics of the "rally type" bumpers that are very popular around here right now:

Just thought i would update this thread for the last time!

I ended up selling the shorty a few days ago, as much as i loved it I just couldn't justify keeping it with how little use it got.

I did a bit of work to get it ready for sale, including having the gearbox out, replacing all the seals, new gearbox mount, new taillight, new snorkel hose, repainted the rims, flipped the tyres so the white letters where on the outside, fixed the speaker mounting and a good few days of wash cut and wax.

She ended up looking pretty good by the time I put her up for sale! Got so many calls, emails and messages I think i could have chased for a higher price, but i put it up for what I thought it was worth and got the full asking price in 2 days.

Here are some pics

Just want to say a big thanks for all the help I have received on these forums and the wealth of information I have learned from everyone!

I'm going to give 4x4ing a rest for a bit, but in the future I see a landcruiser VDJ79 ute decked out for touring, or a supercharged v6 extra cab hilux for camping duties.. ya'know, something sensible :)

Cheers
Gib009

Did you have it last saturday?
I seen the rig on Franklin road driving along with the back doors semi open and something big in the back.

Heartbreaker, Gib009! Hope you never regret a thing. Cheers, 61Mk+

Nah Clint i sold it Friday last week, to some nice young bloke.

61Mk+ no regrets! I've had my fun and time to move on! Plenty of time later to rekindle my love for Landcruisers!
