I also got a new steering damper but the old one (which has a tapered bolt) is prooving very difficult to remove. I may need a bigger hammer.

Hey

Just been reading through this thread. I wanted to say you've done well! It's looking great now, very mean off-road machine. Half your luck that you have a good "testing" ground. If you ever having a road-trip down south from Perth give me a shout, I can show you some fun spots around here (Bridgetown). Had a bit of fun last week in the mud and hills. My old girl needs alot of work mind you. Anyway good work!

Azz

Cheers Azz. I was meant to go to harvey this weekend but it didnt end up happening. Thanks for the offer i will give you a pm if im in the area :)

nice shots man
this wouldnt be east of the race way west of perry road mate out the back of wanneroo?

Thats the place mate. Its just of old yanchep road about 1km from the turnoff to barbagallo raceway. Its pretty boring really but the little bowl at the entrance is sometimes good fun

Went out there this arvo for a just a "quick" and "clean" little 4x4 around ......my utes now covered in grass mud:D

Got the chance to do a proper flex test with Crusty today. Not entirely sure but i got a little further up the ramp going forwards, not sure going backwards. And im also not sure on who has the shorter wheelbase either. Anywhoo im pleased with the suspension for now... Here are the pics... not bad for a full leaf spring setup against a 3.5inch rubicon express lifted wrangler!

LOL... actually i noticed something while we were doing it. Look at the tyre print in the pic where the jeep is up the ramp and my car is in the background. Thats where my tyre went beforehand. And i just looked up the wheelbase of the jeep and its about 93inchs verses my 91inches. So I would actually get a better RTI than a lifted jeep. I didnt want to mention it though as he just shelled out a few grand on it!

Its good isn't it, especially when you can get leaves to work pretty well do minimal $$$ all my springs have been priced between a 6 pack to $100 ! bit of time fiddling and a good result, even if you are slightly behind the jeep/cruiser/patrol in flex the $$$ factor helps lol

Nice flexi mate
You should get your mate to post some info and pics of his shorty aswell
Are they both the same year do they have elec windows etc mate?

A few grand for a coil spring lift on a Jeep:eek: Usually a coil lift is half the price of a leaf lift.
Jeeps also look quite puny next to a 7* series. I was at the lights talking to a mate one day and I realised I was easily a foot higher:D

Yeah it comes with everything all the different arms and stuff, swaybar discos, coils, shocks and spacers. Im guessing all the extended arms are the expensive part.

They must be the chrome ones i spotted;)

Hey guys

i work for westrac (cat dealer) and unless nothing lines up on your shorty like the pos cat equipment
i would say that sticker is a long way of track

but very impressed in the shorty

Thanks mudstorm, but i like the $10 wankfactor haha

Whats been happening to the shorty recently... well not much! I removed the rear heater so i can place a mini fridge or cooler in that spot or at least have more centre console storage. The heater was taking up so much space so i just looped the two coolant lines with some heater hose and threw the heater in the bin.

I went on a trip to the powerlines recently, was pleased with the shortys performance as the track was really quite in bad shape after a hard wet winter. I even got up the fenceline being only 1 of 2 unlocked vehicles to get up it. A twin locked rangie on 38's needed a few goes up it and even blew his front diff on it, and a sweet factory locked 60 riding on 37's got up after a few goes. A 6.5litre chev diesel 40 on 35s managed to get up eventually after a lot of tyre smoke and wheel spin. And i got up relitively easy after a few attempts. Everything is working quite nicely now a locker even at one end would top it off.

Here is the trip report with a few photos on each page
