Wonder if somebody could post up some pictures of the frame tie-ins for a metal tech family cage on an fj40.
I’m out of town but I can get some pics next week. I have the kit waiting to be installed. As I remember, it’s a couple plates that mirror the wheel well plates and foot well plates. Some frame plates and 4 75 degree bend 2” tubes. Definitely a trim-to-fit kit.

I agree with your estimation of the components and I have a general idea of where they install I'm just curious as to what people have done.

I keep moving it up on the list of things to do, but other things keep getting in the way

This doesn't help much... I'd like to see actual installs....

Sorry maybe a stupid question. But is this for road safety or only if the cruiser thing flips over? I'm wondering because im in general wondering about road safety. Since I have a kid my mind stared to change...

You're talking about the frame tie-ins? Yes it makes the structure stronger by connecting the frame to the cage.

Your anti-inversion shackle is on upside down.
Thanks. I am aware, I did it on purpose. They don’t play well with the 79 rear shackle support brackets. I need to figure out something different or clearance the bracket. The shackle angle is pretty terrible as well. I need to pull a leaf or two from the spring pack.

It’s rollover safety (whether on the trail or highway). It should prevent the cage from getting punched through the floor or ripped out of the floor. You can also minimize this risk by having fairly large feet on the roll cage and using a backing plate on the underside of the body (ideally a little larger than the feet). Earlier model 40s had thicker sheet metal, my 79 was thinner.

@MOTOV8R
Are those ironman springs by chance?

Edit to add... I won't buy leafs from ironman ever again after the last 2 sets were that short, or even shorter.
One set you couldn't even get a normal straight shackle to reach the bushing.

You know what they told me? "Put a bunch of weight in the back of the car for a while so they can settle"..

Yeah, no.

Yeah, no.
These are OME/Dakar. There’s no hard top, tailgate, or tire carrier on it.
