Well I was the winner of HAMOM for May, and due to me 1. being broke and 2. not having anything worth fixing :D.......... I have decided to donate my HAMOM to Cruiser4Life (Andy). He needs some work on the front axle of his 77FJ40, and it is one sweet rig if you haven't seen it, so Sat. may 27th I will be making the trek to Charlotte to help Andy out and I hope some of you guys can join me. Andy regularly travels 3+hours to attend our events so lets return the favor and make the trip to help him out

I'll let Andy take over from here!

Good stuff, JP. Very generous of you although I disagree about not having anything worth fixing.

A little late getting this going on my part but better late than never!!!

Yep, there are all kinds of things to be done on the old girl. I am still undecided if it simply needs a hub seal like we've discussed or a complete front axle service. It's weeping pretty bad on both sides. Might make sense to just do the whole damn thing while I have some help.

I'll take some pics and post them in a little while so the experts around here can chime in with their opinion.

If we get bored working on the 40, I have easy wrenching to do on the other trucks too, just need more sets of hands.

Late notice, holiday weekend, travel distance, etc. I am sure it will be hard for most people to make it. For those that make the trip with Mr. Virgo, I'll make sure good grub and grog are in plentiful supply. That can be defined by the attendees, I'll coordinate just about anything.

Also, considering the travel distance, I've got plenty of room at the casa for people to crash if they so desire.

I will be driving the B-E-A-utiful corolla station wagon and should have a few open seats if anyone wants a ride that way we can save on gas.......... I love that little wagon it gets like 35mpg :D

Nice! El Presidente! I am honored!!

Note to self: Arrange primo cigar hookup before next weekend...

Sorry Andy.....I'll be at a wedding on saturday. Dang I wanna see this rig.

I will try to make it. I have friends coming and staying at my house from overseas. But they will be going to a wedding friday and sat. so it might be possible. I can bring the compressor and air hammer and ratchet. It will make things go a lot easier and faster. Go ahead and do a complete rebuild. It can be done in 3 hrs easily if we have help and the right tools. Start now and order the front end rebuild with new knuckle bearings and wheel bearings. One you start taking everything apart you might as well do the rest. It is a nasty job.

Start now and spray all the tre bolts and other stuff with pb blaster. That way it will be good to go in a week.

No worries Chuck, you'll be here in spirit. Enjoy the funeral, er, ah, I mean wedding. :D

Took a quick pic outside for you. Not a very good one but you get the idea.

Hopefully we can get enough done next weekend so that I can bring it to the Tellico trip in August.

Awesome, thanks Marshall. Hope it works out that you can make it.

Good to know I'll have help. The job is WAY beyond my ability and understanding alone. I'll shoot all the bolts with PB Blaster this weekend like you said.

I'll go ahead and order the front end rebuild kit, new knuckle bearings and wheel bearings like you said. Any additional stuff that I'll need, let me know. You guys have a lot more experience with this stuff than I do so I'll kind of run in the direction you point me.

I guess this might be a good time to replace the shocks too. What did you just put on yours - Ranchos, right? Send me the model number, I'll probably order those as well.

Thanks! Looking forward to it!! Gonna have to get the grill ready, too! :D

I ended up taking a few pics to get your opinions. Pics aren't great but they show what's up.

The leak on the front left has settled into the wheel on the front and dripped all over the floor in the rear.

This all started after the infamous West Coast Style bounce-climb Marshall documented at Uwharrie.

Awesome. Again, I really appreciate the effort. I am getting pricing from C-Dan too. Hopefully if I order everything on Monday, that will allow plenty of time to get here by the weekend.

Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters.com has the complete kit for 87 bucks...that was the least expensive one I found. It has everything you need to do your rebuild. Kurt is a great guy to deal with.

i think it is a little more if you get all the bearings too......

also andy you are going to need a little tub of moly grease and wheel bearing grease, I believe correct me if I am wrong marshall

Some of the kits come with the grease, but you are right he'll need some.
Buy good bearings.
Snap ring pliers and a correct hub socket too. Seal puller and installer are nice.
A screwdriver and a large socket can work but the right tools make this a lot easier.
PB Blaster ahead of time is a good idea too. Jack stands are a must for safety.
My schedules isn't clear at this time but things can change.

I wont be able to make it that weekend. It would probably take me a couple hours just to get away from the beach here fighting all the holiday traffic. Hope you guys get a lot done though.
