That is beautiful. I don't know how you figure all of this out, but Toyota should be recruiting you as an engineer. I think after this project you've earned a PhD in mechanical engineering; maybe Jake could bestow an honorary doctorate upon you acknowledged by the Academic
Halls of the Cruiser Barn!

Got a ton of work done on Bullwinkle yesterday.. finished all the plumbing of the fuel, water and tranny oil lines. We decided to use the OEM radiator and also added a second oil cooler up front.

Also finished up the air intake system too. I had to modify the kit a bit, as it was too long to fit in the 62 engine bay. It is really starting to take form now.
I finished my day yesterday with finishing up the front end, adding the grill and light frames.

On to the photos.....
First two are the new clearance on the H3 oil pan and the modified tranny pan. The tranny has been cut on one corner and one bolt had to be cut in half to clear the yoke.

And some more of the engine bay. All plumbed and ready. I will work on the exhaust system today, I like doing exhaust.....
Running two pipes with pre cat o2 sensors, going into a 2 in and 1 out magnaflow. exhaust will be 2 1/2 inch and come out the tail at 3 inch. should be sweet.

more pics.

Here is a couple of how the interior is taking shape....
I love how we incorporated the fj62 tranny shifter into the project.
We also decided to cut the gate on the TC to get the L2 option..

Which Volvo fan? If it cools the V it can surely cool the 3FE, no?

You truly are a wizard, alaska!

Jeff, this is Christian.
Uhhhhh.... I am totally speechless right now. So here I am sitting in bed at 10:30 and I get a call from a buddy of mine (who is going to purchase my brothers wonderful 60 by the way..) and he says he came across a thread that had pictures of my shop. Of course this sparked my interest, and here I am. I havnt had time to read all 5 pages of this thread, but it has explained a lot of un answers questions and also created a bunch more questions. So we just got back from Moab and I saw your fj40 there in the parking lot at Slickrock campground. I had to ask myself why you were driving it and not the 62. Well now I know and I am blown away. That wagon of yours is going to rip!! That is a serious motor. We need to get together and talk. I have done oodles of stuff on the 80 since I saw you last. In fact I was going to say that I just did my head gasket right before Moab and that was a freaking nightmare, but nothing compared to a motor swap of this caliber. Wow. That's all I can say. I am way excited for you.
I have not done much to the red 40 besides driving it and enjoying it. I am trying to purchase another 40 that belongs to a buddy of mine that actually has the same motor and tranny that you just swapped into your 60, so I am excited about that! Not to mention the atlas 4 that is behind that tranny. :D
Anyway, I will be up in your neighborhood on Saturday so I will stop by your pad. This is an awesome thread. I wish I had time to do write ups on my projects.. I just built a sweet rear bumper on the 80 but I can't find the time to post threads.
I am sure glad I found this one!!

Oh also!
Tperry, it is good to hear that the 62 we sold you is still doing well. We were really sad to see it go but I am glad it went to a good home. We saw you driving the other day and wondered if you had changed that door.. That cruiser was so solid for having so many miles. Toyotas are simply amazing. I am glad you are enjoying it and fixing it a bit. We all need to get together and hit a trail soon!

I think its from a 240...? 99ish.

cool what 3FE??? Im sure it will cool this vortec V8 just fine.

I started the exhaust yesterday. i got both down pipes from the headers done. I also got the passenger side down pipe and crossed it over to the drivers side. I now have both pipes running side by side down the drivers side of the rig. The plan is to run two cats, one on each pipe with one pre cat O2 sensors per pipe. The two pipes run into a magnaflow 40 series (two in and one 3inch out).

Should have it close to finished this evening.

Christian I drive by your place all the time and have never met......We do know a few of the same folks though....your right we all need to hook up.

Christian! Great to hear from you, I tried contacting you on FB but only found your wife's page. You are the one who started this whole mod-fest so I blame you :D

We definitely need to get everyone together, it would be a lot of fun. Maybe we can convince Lance to take a break on his Caddy and come to the dark side. I can't wait to see what you've done to the 80, you won't believe what Tom did to get the 40 going but it runs "like a sewing machine," let alone the 62:cool:

Question: Howell is making a custom harness to mate the motor to the Toyota, but we are keeping the current headlight harness. Do we still need to upgrade the headlight harness to go with brighter (I'll even settle for bright) headlights?

Any ideas here?

Ps--that was us at cruise Moab, I wish we knew you were there. It was a ton of fun in the 40, but one week later and my back is still sore! Definitely looking forward to the comfy wagon, now I can actually keep up with you on the street.

Any ideas here?

Lights on your ARB bumper? Hella or KC.. easiest option! $

IPF lights and harness? Little more $$$$

I finished up the exhaust system yesterday. I just have the last 2 feet of tail pipe to run. I still need to pick up two O2 sensors, and a starter.

We are extremely close Heffey!!! very close!

Brighter headlights would be nice for the road, but do we need an upgraded headlight harness in addition or can the current toyota headlight harness handle the extra juice with the upgraded alt and Howell harness? I'm getting excited to hear his thing rumble!

The howell harness wont have the lights through it. Your lights will run through the Toyota harness still. IPF has a system with a harness i was happy with that set up on Tonto. There is also a great thread here on lights by SLCfj62, i think thats his name???

Bullwinkle was in my yard this morning not battling anybody. Just eating bushes.
