Now I need to go pick up 12 quarts of tranny fluid, (almost $6 a quart for that ****) 6 quartz of 5-30 oil, gear oil for the TC and some power steering fluid.

Should fire this rig tomorrow!!!

what time?

Thanks for swinging through Doug...that was perfect timing too. I fired it 15 minutes before you showed up...

Took the cruiser for a quick spin this morning, wow. We only took it around the block but it threw me back against my seat like a jet!

Crazy isnt it...?

Runs like a champ. however, we developed a small leak from the front pump seal on the 4l60e tranny...
Now back to pulling the tranny out and fixing the $7 part. i sure wish I knew that the guys that replaced the pump reused the original seal from the first rebuild. Dang it!

heres the culprit right here...notice the drip right of the seal and dripping on to the clip then runs down the bellhousing.

The torque convertor was completely dry on the outside. Just a fine line of tranny fluid from the front pump seal running down the bellhousing and on to my driveway....LOL!

Heres the brand new seal in place...
All will go back together tomorrow.

Or a TURBO!!!!

Okay, you twisted my arm :grinpimp:

I can't imagine what a turbo would do to this swap, it would become airborne!

Good catch on the leaky seal, I'm glad you're so detail and quality oriented. Others may have let that go. If they scrimped on the $7 seal I hope they didn't cut any other corners. This thing is a beast, I had a smile on my face all day yesterday after getting to drive it for just a few minutes :D

So I replace the seal and the leak developed again, about 5 minutes into warm up.......WTF?

And I was extremely careful while stabbing the torque convertor back in too...WTF?

How can it not be sealing???
I'll get some pics up in a bit..

sooo frustrating.

ouch, hate those type of "bugs"

the ride was great, looking forward to my 5.7 engine build in my unit. Thanks for the experience - and the rig looks great

Thanks Doug for the nice words...

droppped the tranny off at the shop that did the pump for me... they said they would crack into it today and fix my issue which we still dont know what it is...??

looking forward to getting the tranny back.

Perfect pick Jeff.

Also got the tranny back too. It was a nick on the o-ring on the back side of the pump.... should have it all buttoned back up by today or tomorrow.
Also waiting for a pre pump fuel filter from summit racng. the one I have on there creates a little air and is making the pump whine.... Yes, it is slight cavitation due to the wrong pre filter.

Tom found some Trail Gear Sliders cheap online, and led me to Low-Range offroad. They are mostly a Sami and Taco shop but are starting to carry cruiser and expo stuff too. They are about the best price around for these, I was bummed when I missed out on earlier TG deals a year or two ago but these guys have them for such a great price I'm getting some for the 40 too, only $137: http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.php/rock-sliders-rocker-protection.html

Hey Alaska,

First of all great job on this swap and great thread. Curious, about your issue with the pump. Why do you think a pre filter before the pump will stop the whine? Are you using an out of tank in line pump or are you using the OME pump in the tank? I have the same swap done before I bought it and I have the same whine. I have a pre filter on a frame mounted in line pump. What filter are you going to use? Is this a second filter, i.e. do you have a filter after the pump? Thanks for the tip.

Max,

I'm in the market for the TG sliders as well so i checked out your link. I'm away from the Yeti right now so I can't confirm but the price you listed above is for 58" sliders. Pretty sure you want the 67" for $142. I probably knew this but I wanted to make sure you didn't order the wrong ones.

I would do an in-tank pump setup, I think its worth the extra work in the long run... It all depends on what the owner wants though...

Good job BTW!!

Hey Phil,
I dont "think" the pre filter will stop the whine. I know it will stop the whine. In fact it did stop the whine. I was running a standard land cruiser filter with the ports on top of the filter. It was causing air flow. I swapped to a russel filter 40 micron from summit racing. its a low pressure filter. Problem solved my friend. I have a Walbro 255 pump inline. The OEM pump doesnt put out nearly enough pressure that the vortec needs.... which is 58 pounds. the walbro 255 puts out 60 pounds. And yes I have a $100 filter between the pump and engine. I have done of few of these vortec swaps before and I have always run this pump and filters....I just tried to use a different pre pump filter and it bit me in the ass.
