Hello everyone,

I have a question and I want to see what is out here parts wise. I have a 92 FJ80 with the 3Fe engine and i was wondering is there a mass air flow conversion for this engine? I am having little issues due to leaking and i was thinking it might be better just to swap out. let me know your thoughts.

Nope. Best bet is go to the classifieds and find a good used replacement MAF. Now if your talking about the rubber tube that connects it to the intake, I think there are some available.

I checked RockAuto a while back and they had some reman ones there for something, but it may have been the 94.

i just checked with that split sec place and it was $779 i mean my freggin god man

Is there really much to gain by doing this? Honestly curious.

I would imagine so. That intake/air box system looks like it’s choking the motor anything is better than what it is now.

Would this be a solution to get the turbo kit to work on obd1 trucks?

You mean the cold air intake and the big-ass air filter with cyclonic action and a debris catch-can? Those are good things.

And what does any of that have to do with going from an AFM to a MAF sensor? Would you really ditch the whole pre-throttle body setup?

Not alone. The ability to use what I posted on a boosted OBDI system would depend on the actual signal voltage while idling on a stock system.

Idling voltages are listed in the manuals for MAF trucks so maybe someone can look that up. I don't have a manual for the OBDI trucks.

Easy fix:

Yea but remember that it probably includes a new maf sensor (100$), a maf tube for the intake(100$), wiring, and a piggyback computer to help translate the maf voltages properly to the stock ecm, and they have to make some money themselves or its not worth it. And your probably paying for a very low volume item. I would almost bet money that such a kit would work on a 1fz as well, but you would probably have to recalibrate the maf using a maf calibrator and a afr sensor. From what Im used to seeing working in the dealership world of other manufacturers of luxury vehicles as the land cruiser of that era was, 800 bucks is about half of one visit to the dealership. People that own toyota/lexus vehicles are spoiled because one could get away with simple oil changes and filters for 150k miles. And if such owners do the work themselves they get even more spoiled when it comes to not having to spend much on their vehicle. But for other brands of vehicles, owners are used to spending 3 or 4k a year on repairs. So if your gonna keep the truck 5 or 10 years, a maf may be worth it. Or you can keep fiddling with the afm. Which most are somewhat worn, and to calibrate one properly you would have to open it up and use a wideband afr kit to adjust it properly.
