MAF Oil Return Kit Transmission Transfer Case

I've read the archives on this issue and it seems to be a semi-long term fix until you are ready to drop the tranny & T-case and replace the seals. What I'm wondering of those who have done this...what lubricant do you use? The transmission and transfer case both call for different lubes. Obviously they're mixing if the TC is pumping fluid into the transmission. For those that have used the kit, do you just fill both with the same lube, or do you fill each with what they call for and then let them mix as it gets pumped around?

Different lubes? Where did you hear/read that? With the intention of this device, now that wouldn't make much sense now would it?
 
I need to do that as well. let us know how the install goes....seems simple enough
 
This is something that is so easy to make with a handful of cheap parts from any home store, I honestly can't see why anybody would spend the money for the kit. Pull the drian plugs, drill and tap them, screw in some barbed hose fittings, clamp on some tubing and you're done. I put a 90 degree bend on the one coming from my trans, helped with routing. If you have to spend more than $10 I'd be surprised.
 
If you run an auto, the fix does not work.. Of course, if you run an auto and are having the same problem, you really need to fix it any way.

Ya but the transfer usually only sucks it out of the tranny so if its not a whole lot I would not worry.

wouldn't you be putting metal shavings from the drill and tap in the tcase and trans if you do that? plus getting a drill in there seems to be an aweful lot of work when a kit already exists for $50. i don't likie to throw money away but it seems worth it in this case. IMO too many things can get screwed up trying to drill and tap the t-case and trans especially installed in the vehicle

I think he was talking about tapping the fill plugs.
 
There's also a kit on ebay (from Australia) that's available should the MAF one be gone.

thats what i get for not reading completely. :doh: although can you get the flow needed by decreasing the diameter of the fitting and line because you are drilling and tapping into the plugs??

There is no "flow". As the oil warms and thins, it seeps past the seal. The Tcase fills and the oil returns to the tranny. It seeps back to the front as fast as your oil seals will allow the leak.

ahh thanks for the info. so the oil flows from the trans to the t-case??? i thought it was the other way. i thought the t-case pushes oil to the trans and the hose kit was designed to allow excess flow back to the t-case and allow a depressurization to occur between the two units therefor allowing oil to be maintained in both at acceptable levels.

My T-case is always overfull and my tranny is always low.

mine is the opposite. i drained the trans down recovered the oil. properly filled the two. drove 700 miles and the trany was overfilled the and the t-case was low again????
