No replacement for doing a quick R&R on the glovebox to see how yours is laid out.

I'd think Mr. T would rather use a "1 harness for all" - but who knows?

When you get a replacement main engine harness in your hands - at the American Toyota price - it will be immediately apparent that it is one of the best OEM parts bargains in history. If a new harness is in reach financially, go for it, wrap it well with high temp insulation and never worry again. My 2 Cents. Mack

Your post compelled me to stash a new OEM harness for my '97 before NLA. It's like a steel sports Rolex. Even if I never have a real need for it, I can sell it for the same price or more.

CYKBC: It would be interesting to know where your harness was made. When you get it check the small white and red Toyota sticker with the part name/number and bar code on it (not the dealer sticker) to see where it was manufactured.

Reason I ask, last year I purchased a new main harness and it was Made in Vietnam so I compared it to another new (older stock) harness and it was Made in Japan.

Between the two harnesses, the Vietnam harness (purchased from a US Toyota Dealer in 2019) was not exactly the same (quality) as the Japan manufactured part, also purchased through a US Toyota dealer.

What I found was that the Made in Vietnam harness reflective/protective wrapping in the EGR pipe section was not wrapped as neatly or completely. The Japan part had the wrapping tucked in securely at both ends, no exposed wires. However the Vietnam harness wrapping was zip tied at both ends and was too short which left about 1/2" of the harness bundle wires on both ends unprotected.

Not a major defect by itself and it can be fixed easily by adding some extra protection. it just seems that the quality control and attention to detail was not equal between the two identical parts made in two different locations.

I'll post photos later.

Well, you piqued my curiosity. I pulled out my new harness I purchased in February 2017 and am saving for later. Made in Japan, but has the heat shield tape held on with a zip tie and exposing some wiring. Either way, it will be better than what it replaces.

Doubt they are going to let you return it.
