So w

hat should I do? Kinda hit a bit of a brick wall

No replacement for doing a quick R&R on the glovebox to see how yours is laid out.

I'd think Mr. T would rather use a "1 harness for all" - but who knows?

Phone a friend? :meh:
-That or just take the 10mins to pull it & scout it now.

Can some one help!!
Yesterday I was driving and heaps of electrical things in the car stop working
RPM stopped, needle gages stopped, widows don't work , sub tank and central difflocks
Anyone got any clues?

When you get a replacement main engine harness in your hands - at the American Toyota price - it will be immediately apparent that it is one of the best OEM parts bargains in history. If a new harness is in reach financially, go for it, wrap it well with high temp insulation and never worry again. My 2 Cents. Mack
Your post compelled me to stash a new OEM harness for my '97 before NLA. It's like a steel sports Rolex. Even if I never have a real need for it, I can sell it for the same price or more.

Ordered!

Edit: It's on national backorder

CYKBC: It would be interesting to know where your harness was made. When you get it check the small white and red Toyota sticker with the part name/number and bar code on it (not the dealer sticker) to see where it was manufactured.

Reason I ask, last year I purchased a new main harness and it was Made in Vietnam so I compared it to another new (older stock) harness and it was Made in Japan.

Between the two harnesses, the Vietnam harness (purchased from a US Toyota Dealer in 2019) was not exactly the same (quality) as the Japan manufactured part, also purchased through a US Toyota dealer.

What I found was that the Made in Vietnam harness reflective/protective wrapping in the EGR pipe section was not wrapped as neatly or completely. The Japan part had the wrapping tucked in securely at both ends, no exposed wires. However the Vietnam harness wrapping was zip tied at both ends and was too short which left about 1/2" of the harness bundle wires on both ends unprotected.

Not a major defect by itself and it can be fixed easily by adding some extra protection. it just seems that the quality control and attention to detail was not equal between the two identical parts made in two different locations.

I'll post photos later.

More than happy to take a photo to suss this out when it's in my hands next week. I also noticed some other OEM parts I've ordered in the past that were not made in Japan (e.g. hoses). If my new harness is non-jpn, I'm returning it. Thanks for the heads-up, Kernal!

Well, you piqued my curiosity. I pulled out my new harness I purchased in February 2017 and am saving for later. Made in Japan, but has the heat shield tape held on with a zip tie and exposing some wiring. Either way, it will be better than what it replaces.

Doubt they are going to let you return it.

Almost all dealerships say that electrical parts are not returnable.

I'm probably just going to stash it anyways Vietnam or Japan or China or Mars. It's better than the 23 year old one I'm currently running.

And I remember now... it was the two PCV hoses that were made in China.
