Hi all
I just did my rear main seal and followed @Poser ‘s method, which is taking the oil pan off along with the main bearing cap (#4). My engine is a ‘77 2F, and I have it off the vehicle on an engine stand. Overall it went very smoothly.
When putting the main bearing cap back on, what is the consensus on applying sealant between the main bearing cap and engine block near the rear 2 bolts? My FSM from ‘75 doesn’t say anything, and only mentions applying sealant after the main bearing cap has been installed (on engine block around the outside corner of bearing cap). I tried searching here on mud but didn’t find a definitive answer. Thanks
Ps: I put the oil pan back on and intend to put the engine on the car. But would like to know in case I see a leak and need to find the source.
