Hey @sorich, why the 0W30 Oil?
0w pumps better than 5w when cold. Same operating viscosity, so the only difference really is cold starts. If you dive deep into the depths of bobistheoilguy forums and articles, you'll find that most argue that 0w-30 is a "better" oil than a 5w-30. Since I live in an area that sees lots of cold mornings, I just go with h 0w-30.

Why do u replace spark plugs at 30k when they are rated for 120k?

Why replace driveline fluids too soon too?
60k miles sounds more reasonable but ur vehicle usage might deem it necessary to change sooner, but 15k is way too soon i think

Also, ur prices for driveline fluids are very low, what oils do u use and where u get them from?

Thank you!
I plugged in these frequencies when I first got my truck as I was reading the maintenance schedule. It's possible I copied it down incorrectly. I Donn't have the manual in front of me (out of town), but maybe someone else can chime in and confirm the 15k interval for driveline grease and 30k for plugs. I could just be wrong.

I buy oil/grease in bulk whenever I see it on sale. Sometimes from Walmart, sometimes online, etc... So I just keep it stocked and make sure it's always cheap but good quality.

“Lubricate propeller shaft (4WD)” first appears in the Toyota maintenance log book at 5k and reoccurrs every 5k thereafter, which is kind of on par with every oil change depending on if you run conventional or synthetic. Also, this is dependent upon whether you follow the 5k, 7.5k, or 15k service intervals (the 15k interval coincides with the 5k & 7k intervals). On a side note, does anyone actually "Re-torque propeller shaft flange bolts" which appears at every service interval??

Also diff and tranny fluid are recommending to be changed every 75k. Of course that interval is determined by what Toyota calls “Special Operating Conditions”, which is obviously how you use your truck (frequent long highway trips, towing, steep mtn passes like the San Juan’s, etc..). And yes, this vehicle has stayed in the same family it’s entire life. My uncle bought it new off the lot in ‘00 to give to my aunt because they had 3 labs of their own and sometimes a 4th when they were dog sitting for my cousin. This vehicle never touched so much as a boat ramp and was the definition of a grocery getting, mall crawling, soccer mom mobile while they had it! Then my father purchased it from his brother (my uncle) and I bought it from my father.

mmbirtcher,
The maintenance schedule doesn't state to replace the PCV Valve & Hoses every 100k. Is this something that's only recommended if you frequently offroad, drive through heavily dusty areas, tow lots of stuff, etc? or is it something that's recommended if you only use your vehicle as an onroad daily driver?

As per the Front Wheel Bearings, I gave my vehicle to my mechanic for it's 120k service which included repacking the Front Wheel Bearings. He told me that the Front Wheel Bearings cannot be repacked as they are a sealed assembley. He said I must use them until they go bad and then you replace them. Could the previous owner of my vehicle replaced my front wheel bearings with an aftermarket sealed type or is it more likely that my mechanic is unfamiliar with this request? It should also be noted that the previous owner of my vehicle was maticulous with servicing it and only had it serviced at a Lexus dealership.

Your mechanic is misinformed. Waiting until they go bad is expensive.

But...I'm not sure I'd trust him at this point to do the service anyway. It's a very particular process (not hard, just particular) and getting it wrong can also toast the bearings. If you can push him to do it, make sure he's got the relevant portions of the FSM, reassembles with the correct parts, etc.

10-4. Thx for the info. My mechanic has been mechanicing for 50+ years and has been great to me, but sounds like this would be best serviced elsewhere. I'll let the dealership handle this one.

If I remember correctly, I don't think the PCV valve is listed as regular maintenance, but nor are the Heater T's which is a well known point of failure. When making the spreadsheet, I used service recommended by the factory as well as respected forum members such as @2001LC .

Regarding your wheel hubs- run! These vehicles are extremely reliable as you well know, but require specific maintenance that must be performed by technicians (or gear heads such as those who's reside on this forum) to keep them operating properly. I may be wrong, but I have never heard of sealed hubs on the LC100. Your mechanic may be excellent, but perhaps is expertise is more with Fords or the makes. Look for LC specialists in your area- being in UT this should be easy, just ask for recommendations on the forum. Here in The Lou, I have one mechanic for basic tasks two blocks away, and the main LC guys / mechanics / fanatics a few miles further down the road.

So I just got a new to me 2004 LX. I always buy used, and as many do, baseline all maintenance soon after acquisition.. Well, in trying to get my head around this one and perhaps being a bit overly detail oriented, I created a maintenance schedule on Google Sheets which I will share. I've added a couple things to it besides the factory recommended based on information found here on Mud.

Please take a look, feel free to grab a copy from the link to use, and I'd love any advice on items I should add to it. Here's the link (which, if you use the link, you can add comments too which could prove interesting)-

LX 470 Maintenance Schedule

I should add that its a work in progress...
Very handy, thanks!

I made an excel sheet that helps me keep track of performed maintenance and scheduled maintenance for my LX 470. I posted a tutorial for how to use the file here:

The plan was to upload an attached file with this post so everybody was free to download it for themselves. However, this forum doesn't allow uploads of .xlsm files. Maybe a moderator could make an exception for this one as it's a very useful way of tracking your maintenance. If any members have an alternative idea of how I could share this file without breaking the forum rules, please direct message me with instructions.

Special thanks to this thread for posting the maintenance schedule I used.

Upload it to google or mega or any other cloud providers and paste the link here.

Does anyone still have theex2 excel maintenance sheet? It looks like the file no longer exists on Mega.

I just saw your message from yesterday. I updated the links in this post and my other post. See here for the file: 152.2 KB file on MEGA - https://mega.nz/file/jhl10KDL#riYGOooRHxYn70LwS0i4kVxGlqSQ5d5ENYKAaLuHrh0
I think you're the first person that's actually going to use it other than me. I've had tremendous success using it with all of my vehicles. I don't know how anybody else keeps track of this stuff any other way. Let me know if you have any questions or run into any trouble along the way as I would be happy to make improvements.

Incredible! Thank you!

Would you mind sharing the spreadsheet via google drive?
EDIT: No matter how I post the link, it appears this site revises my link with a MEDIA tag, so I can't just post the link/URL for you to download. It looks like you have to open/maximize the window which brings it to a new tab and then select the download button to download it to your PC.

Sorry, just saw your post. Here is a google drive link:
If you open it with Google Docs, it appears my Macro for auto-sorting column E doesn't work, so you'll have to sort that manually through Google Docs, assuming it allows you to.

Thanks for reposting I came here for the link and left disappointed a couple of months ago.
