@AFdude, it is. Also, you can use the navigation while driving. That is something that locks out above 5MPH I believe.

I pulled my parking brake and tried every button to find a way to play the video on the front but didn't see anything that indicated front video playback. How does it work? I may have to study the instruction manual.

Did you also shift into Park? You have to...

Yeah, I was in park. Is the button on rear screen?

It's been a while... Can't remember if you have to do something with the remote...

Hmmm. Now I'm curious enough to drag my wheelchair self out to the driveway and see...

I was about to order one but since I never use navigation and it wouldn't allow me to play movies on the head unit, I changed my mind.

Initially I thought I would get it, but I use Google maps for Nav and I don't care about playing movies on the head unit. So it isn't of any use to me.

Have the vehicle in Park and the parking brake pulled. While the DVD is playing go to the audio screen and you should see a button on the front screen labeled picture that is normally grayed out but becomes selectable with the parking brake pulled. Click that on screen button and it will show the DVD that is playing on the front screen.

@Reckless, were you able to validate that you can watch movies with the e-brake up?

@M1911- We've compared Google Maps to the loaded nav software. The consensus was that for longer trips the trucks nav was perfectly fine. It wasn't until we got into dense urban areas that Google shined. We will continue to use a blend of the two primarily because Google allows for realtime traffic and faster rerouting when we get into big cities.

I'm in the Boston area. I use Google Maps on my daily commute to route me around backups on the highway. Also, Google Maps has good (not perfect) lane guidance, which is very helpful when driving in unfamiliar areas.

My 2013 has the original maps. The last time I looked into the cost to update, it was going to be significant. Since Google Maps is free, I find it hard to justify spending the money.

I've been trying. I'm a computer engineer and I can't figure this out. I misplaced my instruction manuals. Where does the DVD go in the rear? Does it go in the main dash changer?

Goes right into front unit (same slot as music CDs)

I loaded a Batman Begins DVD into the front changer in slot 3. I would try to hit DVD in the back and it wouldn't load/do anything. I am assuming Video is for the Video output on the rear floor?

Don't you mean Video INPUT?

I think the front controls what's playing back there...

Yeah, Video input. I still haven't figured it out but will have some friends who are more techy come over to try to help on the weekend.

I ordered the navigation bypass as well off of ebay for $100: Prestigious Society Navigation Enhancement System for Lexus | eBay

According to the manufacturer that is the part number. I just hope my mechanic doesn't have a hard time installing it.

I got my prestigious society setup installed today. Pretty cool. The solution is a bit pricey IMO. Personally, I don't watch any movies in the car but plan to have music video/concert dvds playing. Maybe I will put movies on for long road trips.

Thanks for the Install photos/directions, even though it's for a Lexus my mechanic was able to work off of it. He did say he had to take everything apart. My glove box is not staying shut now, I will have to show him tomorrow. It did have issues previously where I would have to shut it three times before it stayed shut.

@Reckless, I'm happy this was able to assist. Not sure why the glove box had to come off though. That might be a Land Cruiser specific instruction. I didn't go near the glove box except to take the leather trim off on the passenger side.

I'm glad it worked out for you. This device won't make financial sense for everyone but, it does for some. Congrats on getting it installed and again, I'm glad this thread helped!

I went back to mechanic yesterday, the glove box was fine - something got lodged in a corner and I couldn't see it late at night. There is some kind of switch, neither of us have checked the instructions, maybe its to turn off bypass?
