I’ve been using one of these to calibrate 33.1” tires on a 2006 LX470 for 6 months. Overall it works well except when cruise control is on. When cruise is on there is a undulation where the throttle goes up and back down over and over. The vehicle speeds up then slows back down ever so slightly but noticeable, over and over and over. it’s enough to make me not use cruise control. This is most noticeable on flat surfaces. It seems to me there is a delay while the unit processes data and spits out an answer back to the vehicle but that’s just my guess.

Hi,
I will PM you. I have seen this in a few particular cases where I think there is a natural oscillation.

Lutz Auto

Pumped to have this unit for my 80 finally reach Australia (not with me yet, mind you, but waiting to clear customs). Thing was stuck in CA for over a month before it left the USA. Been driving carefully in Aus over the holiday period because they’re super strict this time of year.

Hopefully clears customs quickly 🤞😬🤞

Wow man, mine pretty much came straight from Lutz, no delay in shipping.

Yeah, pretty big delay but whatareyagunnado? Has now cleared customs so hoping it arrives this week.
Sometimes the standard USPS shipping is very slow to Australia. The more expensive shipping options will get it there in a couple days, but they're pretty pricey for one item.

I've got a yellow box sitting in my parts drawer. I installed it once but it did not change the speedo. Not long after that I had battery problems (bad alternator) and removed the yellow box during troubleshooting.

I came across this thread the other day and immediately order the Lutz speedo correction. This seems incredibly simple and easy compared to the yellow box instructions.

Wow. The Lutz Auto speedo calibration is simple and easy.

Before I started I collected four data points (50mph, 60mph, 65mph, and 70mph) and calculated the results. I then averaged the four data points for a -.07% for my final calculation.

It took longer than expected to remove the connector off the TC due to the mud in the clip. However connecting the Lutz Auto speedo calibration was easy and programming was a breeze. I zip tied the control box to the fuel lines and took the Cruiser for a drive. The speedo was perfectly in sync with GPS data and I could not detect anything different from the way the speedo operated previously.

Unfortunately, now that my speedometer and odometer are correct, I was able to accurately calculate that I was only getting 12mpg on the highway :(

Yes love the Lutz auto speedo correction.

Just ordered a Lutz speedometer correction kit. With 35s and 4.88s my speedo is off by a big margin. Only good thing is it makes it seem like I'm getting over 16mpgs... if only that were true.

Does anyone know if the speedo being off also affects when the transmission shifts? It seems like its shifting to 2nd pretty quick and kinda bogs sometimes. My thinking is if its speed related then the trans thinks the truck is already doing 15mph when its really only doing 10, and its shifting earlier than it should.

16mpg? Wow. The 35's and 4.88's should make raw calculation of mileage actually worse. For instance 35's and OEM 4.10's made my fuel economy seem less but was actually 10% better. With 35's and 4.88's, you're fuel economy is 7% less than calculated.

Installed my Lutz Speedo Correction kit a week or so ago. When I was under the truck this evening I noticed this leak on the TC.
Looks like its coming from the seal between the harness and the TC. Not exactly sure what you call this harness, but does anyone know if this is a simple r/r of an o-ring or is it more involved?

Haha, thanks! I used all sorts of search terms, but not "speedo", duh.

Should be an easy fix!

This is the way...one of the more satisfying (and cheap!) leak fixes on the 80. My t-case was soaked when I first got the truck and the little o-ring on the sensor did the trick.

Everyone still happy with the Lutz tool long-term? On 37's / factory gearing (gimme a break, I live in Houston where the biggest elevation gain is an entrance ramp onto the highway!) and the truck is off about ~10mph at cruising speeds.

Is there some super elegant method for calculating your margin of error on for your speedo? I'm running 37's and factory 4.11 gearing. Gathered a few data points yesterday back and forth to the office...figuring I'm approximately 15% low on the speedo vs. actual on GPS.

Planning to install next few days - thanks Mud!

I believe the best way to do this is with the GPS strategy in the instructions. This will account for small differences in brands of tires, etc.

I can't say enough good things about the Lutz Auto Speedo correction. I love this thing. After dealing with an inaccurate speedo for more than 10 years, it makes me feel good that's the speed on the gauge is accurate and I don't have to do mental math.

Another happy customer.

With 285/75R16's on my 80 series with stock gearing, my calculations showed I was ~6.6% off. Previously I had added this correction to the UltraGauge I run but this did nothing for the stock cluster. Enter the Lutz device I've admired from afar the last couple years, that I finally pulled the trigger on.

Zip tied using both mounting ears to the fuel lines, and harness secured to the t-case ground strap.

Clicked the "up" button 14 times for a 7% correction and my cluster speed matches GPS. GPS is a little slow to update and doesn't show me 1/10s like the UG, but seems spot on to the ones digit.

Wish it were this easy to correct other vehicles I own!
