Folks,

Just found this interesting piece from the Denso website regarding spark plugs and LPG while researching my random misfire.

http://www.denso-am.eu/FAQArticle.asp?id=6

See the third question.

My wife's Uncle checked the spark plugs when I had had the misfire for a while and the LPG garage could not identify the fault. He said the spark plugs that the LPG garage had put in were cheap one and changed them to NGK Iridium plugs.

I am beginning to think that this may have been the original cause of my misfire - I am at the moment replacing all the coil packs with Denso originals (at some cost!).

Is there anything else with regards to the voltages talked about - i.e. could a battery on it's way out be an issue?

Hope this might be of help to someone,

Cheers,

Malcolm.

Sorry I can't be any help. But is your 100 converted to run LPG? If so, please post info about the conversion.

Mine is converted to run LPG - I kind of put the info on the site for anyone who has a similar issue to find.

The conversion was from an approved installer - the certificate says that it is a Stako tank (95l) and an OMVL Regulator. It was fitted in 2006 and was running fine until around 2 years ago. Which was right a short while after a service.

Not sure if they changed the spark plugs then but my suspicion is they changed them and one of the less experienced guys put cheap plugs in (as I trust the guy who runs the garage).

Anyway - I am looking at diving under the hood to replace the coils in the next day or so and I'll post updates to LPG system and misfire when I can

Are you in the USA?

Why would you run high pressure LPG in an IC engine?

In the UK LPG is a lot cheaper than gas or diesel...mostly due to tax difference but the basic fuel is a little cheaper as well. Gas mileage and power is a bit less but the cost difference is apparently worth it for many. A lot (most?) conversions run on both gas and LPG; you flip a switch to go from one to the other...usually start on gas and then switch to LPG if i remember right.

No first hand experience; just what I've read.

'Could work here in the US also except the fuel price difference isn't as much so less reason to bother.

I'm based in the UK - LPG is about half the cost of petrol here so price is the main reason for switching. You also get tax breaks based on the reduced emissions.
