So. I decided to replace the gas tank in the goblin. Multiple reasons. But the main one was the fact that the lining that I paid good money for was flaking up and rust was getting into the fuel lines.

After a little researching and not many options for a relocated tank, I chose to buy a tank from Downey. Ugh.


It was the least expensive option even at $600.

I got it installed with very poor instructions and some cussing.

The [main] difference between this tank and the old one is the feed style. The old con-fer tank had a bung at the bottom for the fuel line.

This new one utilizes a bulkhead at the top of the tank and uses a syphon feed tube from the bottom of the tank.

I "was told" that I "shouldn't have any issues".


Well. The fu cn thing won't feed. I am running a nice performance mechanical fuel pump. And I even went as far as splicing in an electric pump in the previous location to "help" pull the fuel. Maybe it's a pusher. Or whatever style.

Problem is, it not building any pressure or pulling any fuel.

At. All.

Anyone have any suggestions before I set thing ablaze?

Well I was gonna ask why you didn't put the metal $239.00 CCOT tank in it but since you're having issues I wont...

Because the stock location has been sealed up. Door moved to the back. In the end maybe this would have been best but then you have to cut in a new gas door. That's not green. Lots of issues.

So it creates positive air pressure inside of the tank, and the positive air pressure forces fuel up through a siphon and out of the tank? Is that right?

If so, the only explanation would be that you have an air leak.

No the fuel pump just pulls it up and out.

The fuel pickup was too short. He added a few more gallons to it and it worked fine with mechanical pump only.

Uh. Yes.

Everything he's gotten from that guy has been off in some way.

A pick up that sucks air with 1/4 tank left is lame

Might need one of those for the buggy! I "ran out of fuel" twice on Saturday trying to get up one of the optional outs above the waterfall on Ingreds. Had to back down using the starter motor and wait until the electric fuel pump picked up its prime again.

I've run into the same issue multiple times in my 40. Low'ish fuel level in the tank, the truck rolled over onto the passenger side (supply is fed from the driver's side of the tank), and DONE.

Its for sale for $20,000 which after spending nearly that much on this 1974 I am building it is a STEAL at that price.



I would love to see it stay local.
