If you want to hear the truth then here it is. If not go past.

One riser slip for that price. 4,000 yes, 10,000 NO.

The wheel well both inside and out are rusted out. To include where the rollbar sits. Then the front rockers are shot. Even the bottom part is rotting out in front of the rear tires.

Now if you want a project 40 then go for it, but do not give the asking price.

No! Thank you! That's what I need. It's definitely not a 10k rig especially with that amount of rust and body work needed. I'm gonna contact her and tell her that I spoke with several of my cruiser experts (you guys) and showed y'all pics and I'm gonna tell what y'all said. I'm not gonna be rude or anything, I'm just gonna tell her the facts. I'm definitely gonna walk on this one because of how much body work is needed, and there's no way she'll come down to 5k or so.

Alright, I've seen it more than once - WTF is a riser slip???

X2 ... but remember that Jack Bauer has spoken and he is likely a better shot that you or me :D

Riser slip you do when you are about to cone into contact with power lines / buildings / other jumpers and you need to get away before you get into trouble.

Not too keen on Jack but was called Mcguiver on more than one occasion getting trucks to make it back to the FOB. Granted the real mechanics hated what I did.

'k ... will drop the Jack, picked it up here. I'd call that field-expediency.

Had a conversation with a few guys on Helicopter Pad a few years back about the most important item on any 4x4 rig. Tires, steering, brakes, were all brought up. I pointed out that they were all wrong. It is clearly the loose nut behind the wheel that can get it fixed enough to get the rig back out to civilization (or a FOB) ...

Hijack over ... unless there is something I am missing, just judging from the pics, the yellow one is far from a $10K rig in my eyes ..

Just sent this email to the owner of the 77. What do you guys think? Was I too harsh? She needs to know that she's asking way too much for that 40 though. I'm looking elsewhere cause I know there's no way in heck that she'll come down 4-5k on it.

Hey Heather, Brysen here. So after sleeping on it and looking at the pics of the 40 today and talking with multiple guys that I know that work on 40's and cruisers and all own their own 40, I think we're a little bit apart on the price. I'm not trying to be rude or take away on the 40 at all because I know it's not perfect and I'm not expecting it to be. Here's what my consensus is after talking with my guys I know (that own 40's and work on them, so I'm confident that what they said us true). The wheel well both inside and out is rusted out. The front rockers are shot (even the bottom part infront of the rear tires). I don't know if there is rust under the diamond plating or not because I can't see under it (assuming there isn't, it's still bolted on by numerous bolts/screws. Those would need to be filled all over the rear quarters and sides). The rear sill looks good, but all around it is rough. The doors need work and there is rust bubbles in various places all over. The whole underside of the tub is rusty and underneath (frame and all that has some rust). I'm not trying to diminish the truck or take away from it, but it definitely needs some body work. That being said I'm still interested though. 10k is a little bit pricey though for the amount of work needed upfront on it. What's the lowest you could go on it? I ask this to save the time for the both of us, because if we're too far apart (based on your asking price and what my experts have told me what they think its worth in its current condition) then it wouldn't be worth us making the trip or you wasting your time on me. That being said though I'm not trying to be rude and I'm still very interested, so please let me know. Thanks.

I myself would not do that via email but in person so they can see exactly what you are talking about as you point each thing out. She is going to blow you off i bet right now.

Another thing i need to point out to all. Alot of body shops are not wanting to do as much as this one would take to make right. They just want to do easy insurance work.

So was I wrong to do that? I didn't know what else to say, except what y'all told me. I hope I didn't sound like an A-hole or was rude. I just didn't know what to say so that's what I said so I could let her know what I thought and what y'all said about it. Let me know if I'm wrong and of I shouldn't do that again. I hope I didn't offend anyone. Let me know.

Im sure the owner is well aware of the issues and probably doesn't appreciate your "kicking the tires" via email..honesty is great -but all you really have to say is - considering the issues presented, heres what Im willing to pay...that way-youre not offending anyone. .and keeping the door open to negotiation.

And PS - Jack Bauer IS a bad ass and so is Darrin. I wouldnt want to piss off Darrin..or Bauer.

I'm sorry. Amateur mistake. Won't let it happen again.

Don't worry about it. She is fully aware of what she has. If it isn't what you want, it isn't what you want. She's had some of the best minds, that ONSC has to offer, check it out. She just started testing the waters. No harm, no foul.

Ok. It's not that I don't want it, it's just that it needs a lot of work upfront on the body, and due to that it's not worth the asking price of 10k. Ok thanks again for being understanding. She contacted me back after the email, and was very understanding. She said she was willing to work on the price and that she know its not perfect. I'll let y'all know what happens.

You are young and it is a learning curve. As long as you learn / remember stuff like this you will be fine. Things do not always come off the way you want online versus in person. I would of gone to look at it but have a list from here and then start pointing things out that will need to be addressed and that is why you feel the price needs to be what you are offering as it will take so much to make it right for you to feel safe / comfortable in. Its all about presentation, both from her and you.

Ok. Thanks for the advice Darrin. It makes makes me feel a lot better hearing it from all of y'all. And I'm learning more and more everyday, and I'm that much closer to finally getting the 40. Thanks again and I'll make sure to do that from now on.
