Heard back from the owner of the 77!

Here's what she said: "I purchased it in 2008 from an individual who infrequently drove it, and had intended it to be a “project car”. However, he didn’t really have time to work on it. It was garage kept at the time. Shortly after purchase, it was repaired, repainted, all rust was “dealt with” by either removing it (for large areas of rust) or painted over with POR-15 (light rust). Bondo was used in some areas. The entire truck was repainted with Rust-Oleum professional grade Caterpillar yellow paint, as that closely matched the original yellow paint. Engine was tuned up, and other parts repaired/replaced. Garage kept since purchase.

It has been driven infrequently on mountain roads, and used as a workhorse around my property. This truck was never intended to be perfect, but I did need it to run reliably, and “earn its keep” around the farm. It has done just that. It was always stored in a garage when not in use.

I'm asking $10,000 for it. I also have a full size spare, a tow bar, a floor mat for the back, the 8000 lb Warn winch, and a Haynes manual that will go with it. Let me know if you are still interested after you look at the photos and sleep on it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask."

Let me know what y'all think of the 77! Owner said everything works except temp gauge, she's had it inspected every year up until last year when it was no longer required, odometer works so milage is original and correct, and engine is original! She's also willing to work with me on the price! Let me know what y'all think.

Someone go with brysen to look that sucker over. Looks pretty good from what i have seen so far.

3rd set of pics you posted then go to 1st and 2nd pic.. bondo? If so, x2 on Darrin's comment about the diamond plate..a hands on thorough inspection would be warranted. Not a 10k rig, IMHO..but definitely worth a closer look.

Yeah, I'm a little skeptical on the diamond playing and I'm definitely gonna look it over thoroughly. I agree 10k is a little much for it. What do you think a fair price on it is?

That paint is hiding a lot. Maybe it was POR15'd, maybe not. It has some nice stuff - looks like the dash is good. Even if the diamond plate isn't hiding anything, there are a ton of screws holding it all on - rear quarters and sides - that would need to be filled. Always assume that DPlate is hiding something because there's no reason for it to be there otherwise. The rear sill looks good but nothing around it does. Lower door openings look like crap above the DPlate. I would expect FAR less rust for $10k. There are actually holes in the fender bottoms. I can't speak for the engine as I don't have one to compare to. It's really easy and cheap to tape things off before spraying paint. Why didn't they? That makes me wonder if they did anything right. From 50 feet you might not know they polished a turd. It's probably a great truck for the right price. I don't know what that is, but it sure isn't $10k. Also, POR15 on one side of the metal doesn't do anything for the other, and it looks like they only cared about the yellow parts.

I wouldn't run away but I'd be very careful inspecting it and formulating an offer. There looks to be some pretty good stuff, too, but I'm a tool who looks for the worst.

Let it go. $10k is way high for a rig hiding the damage just given away by the pictures.

If you want to hear the truth then here it is. If not go past.

One riser slip for that price. 4,000 yes, 10,000 NO.

The wheel well both inside and out are rusted out. To include where the rollbar sits. Then the front rockers are shot. Even the bottom part is rotting out in front of the rear tires.

Now if you want a project 40 then go for it, but do not give the asking price.

The one in pavo ga starting to sound feasible. Supposedly mechanically sound but needs body work. 2k for rig then 6-8k for bodywork. Then there is still the white one in buford ga
