If it took that much abuse and we walked away, I don't want anything other than another Cruiser.

I am planning to check that one out today or tomorrow. Original head gasket, but they have owned it since '99. The high miles are a concern on the original head gasket. He did say his mechanic told him the drivetrain is in good shape (but, what else is he going to say). I will check it out.

Thanks.

Cool a two owner 80. The high mileage shouldn't be that big of a deal, if and only if, it was properly maintained and not abused by the PO's.

Mine has 203,000 and is running strong, after alot of work.

If it were me, I would definetly do the head gasket as soon as I got this though. Just in case.

Since it's all apart anyway, you might aswell clean out the intake manifold, flush the cooling system and transmission. 220k worth of oil and EGR crud will really gum that thing up. Mine was horrible at 185k and was throwing codes due to all of the vacuum ports being blocked.

Hopefully you can salvage some parts from your wrecked rig to spruce this stock one up quickly. Let me know if you need a hand wrenching. If you can get a couple cruiser heads together you could do most of the preventative maintenance in a weekend.

Talked with the owner more, new radiator, new wheel bearings up front, but has a major motor oil leak (said at the oil pan, but could be rear main). Said he has to top off with a quart every two tanks. That's a serious leak.....

Hey dude, I just saw your thread about the accident. Just wanted to say I'm really glad you guys made it through that OK. Good luck with your next purchase.
Brian.

It's probably the pan. Thats not too bad to replace. Might be worth negotiating that high price down in light of the leak. At least the underside should be relatvely corrosion free from all of the oil. It may be a blessing in disguise.

My 80 had bad oil leaks when I got it but after I fixed them and cleaned it all up, it looked like a new vehicle underneath.

Found one......for the wife...

In my search for another 80, found a deal on a 100-series I couldn't pass up. So the wife got a new car today.

Now, looks like I'll be selling our 4Runner so I can get what I want. Let me know if you know of any one looking for a low mileage, clean, stock 3rd gen 4Runner 4WD so I can get an 80.

Alright, making some progress. Sold the 4Runner tonight, now for the full court press on finding an 80.

Tim, if I play my cards right, I'm hoping there will be another 40 down the line. One thing at a time.

cool

congrats Adam, cant wait to see it. Is it modified?

Thanks. A little bit, factory locked, 4.88 longfields, 4" lift, 35's, sliders, skid plate, bullbar, winch. Started baselining it, and i'll probably change things up a little bit, but should be ready to go as is. I'll try to get pics up later.

I am sure you will really appreciate the re-gear. I can appreciate how much it help my 4banger push the 35"s. I know the one you got, definately eyed it on the classifieds.

The re-gear makes a night and day difference. My old one seemed sluggish with stock gearing on 33's. This one seems more responsive even with 35's.

I'll probably try to build this one to match the old one, I really liked how that one was setup.
