Hi guys,

My old 12" DeWalt miter saw has recently died on me :frown: It served me for 5 good years. So now I'm in the market for a new one. I was thinking about trying Bosch's this time. What do you think? Does anyone have it? Are you satisfied with it?

Bosch is a good brand, haven't used their miter saws though. I generally stick with Dewalt; not always the best for particular item but always seems to be good quality stuff.

I think the Bosch "glider" saw is probably the best miter saw ever. There's nothing even remotely close to the rigidity of that system. In particular the lateral stiffness. Not even the $$$ festool comes close.

I don't know much about that saw you linked to.

Currently I have two sliders, an Evolution Rage 3 which is great for cutting steel, but not for wood. And a Ridgid 10" SCM that I've been really pleased with. It's pretty similar to all the other big brands and I like having a 10" blade because I can use my table saw blades when necessary - especially for things that require a specialty blade it's nice not to have to buy two. Like plastics for example. And a 10" will cut all the normal dimensional lumber that a 12" saw will cut. Both will cut a 4x , neither will cut a 6x.

That's one of the biggest issues with miter saws. The other is the smoothness of the bevel slide and how accurately you can lock it in. Your best bet would be to go play with them a bit at the store.

FWIW, most of my experience in miter saws is with DeWalt, Hitachi, and Makita, the latter being the clear winner, IMO.

Hi, Really like our Hitachi, the guys working for me have not torn it up and they can tear up anything! Mike

Not sure where you're located, but I've got my radial arm saw for sale on craigslist. It has served me well since I've owned it. I'll probably wish I hadn't sold it if it goes, but I'm working more with metal than wood these days and I could use the space and the cash.

Another huge Hitachi fan here....their casting just seems to be ahead of the others. Can't wait for this one to die to get another...I use primarily for trim, but occasional framing.

I got a Ridgid 12" compound sliding miter saw in 2007 from Home Depot with the portable set-up table.
It's been amazing, I've finished my house with it, and built a huge addition carport to my storage shed out back. It will almost cut 6x6. I got it because I like the large table and the adjustors are 'cone' type, they are very accurate and consistent. It's the same price yesterday as when I bought mine. Highly recommend.

Bosch 5412L There used to be some good units from Japan , I think the quality of all their products have deminished recently.I would search all German tools when looking for something engineered well, further East for firearms.
