eleblanc: lets see some samples, if your work doesn't have a issue with you showing stuff..??

Here's the top view, as you can see, a couple things are not to a "whole" number, but were talking a couple of millimeters and this from crawling around under a truck and using a tape measure.... I'm fairly certain that the frame model will be accurate.

The measurements you see are from projected geometry, they are not just placed dimensions

Ooooh when you're finished with the frame can you continue to model the bodywor, engine, piping wiring routes etc.

I am prepared to wait a few months!

I think all that would take longer than a few months, The engine would be difficult, I have most of the rear done, although, now that I have a solid frame, I may put more detail into those body pieces
One thing I do want to do is a wiring harness. I started on some of the connectors, so routing the wires is the easy part. It would be nice to have an actual assemblied harness that could be bought, or a schematic of easier assembly...?

Send me your email via PM, you need better tires.

Here is a trailer i did for fun, some time ago.

i'm not very good with renders...

This one is a small package, i don't feel like opening a large enclosure with 2000+ part and render it, right now..

Sorry for no pics lately, I am still working on it, however we are trying to get our garden in on time and I have to move the wood pile to the other side of the property. I will have some progress pic soon. I have started on the rear body panels though

Rock on! You have far exceeded the model I created a long time ago. X2 on the file if willing to share down the road. I always wanted to build a scale model of a 40 and this would be a great way to get started with that. I have several hard bodies already, but wanted a scale frame. There is a company offering one, but I'm cheap! ;)

Cool stuff! I have modeled portions of my FJ55.

Are you going to share the step or iges files? CAD is fun, I have been using them since 1986.

Thats fine, but as you know with a step, iges or sat file, it's pretty much a "dumb" model, it has no history and is not easily changed or modified if need be, and maybe that doesn't matter to much, but if your talking about building a detailed model, you will need that functionality. Of course things like brackets and such could be imported as dumb models and perhaps even other components, but if for some reason something major changed like a rail or body panel, those other things would need to be adjusted by the original designer and reposted or simply recreated.

If your original model is accurate, then having a non-parametric file is fine. I have to use that crap everyday.

At home I have AutoSAD, Solidworks and Solidedge.

I know and have used, Mechanical Desktop, Helix Design, Pro-E, Microcadam, Microstation and a couple others I can't remember.

I prefer Solidworks as I can create G-code from my models for my CNC mill. At work I have to use Solidedge.

Nat, do you use SolidEdge with the new Synchronous Modeling feature? That makes working with imported solids easy. I use Unigraphics NX that shares the same Synchronous Modeling technology that SolidEdge uses.

on a side note

I saw a frame like some time ago while surfing around the forums, I have no idea who's 40 it was or if it was even on ih8mud, anyways, i wonder what could come of this?

Added in the spring hinges, rear support face ties. I will try and climb up under the truck tomorrow or so to try and finish the rear end and angled supports

The part looked really good and the sketch will help as well, thank you. I may crawl under tomorrow, but I have a lot of wood to move, lol and it's fairly cold out here... its 35º in Houston

Would you mind sharing a .step file of your frame assembly model? I can only guess how much time you have in it so I understand if you don't want to.
