Very, very sad news Stan. I can only empathize with how much rage and vengeance you must feel right now. Keep your head, and make sure you don't do anything you regret if you find out who did this, but make sure these asshats pay in every legal way possible. What a shame. I'm pissed thinking about it!!

Unfortunately one of my animals was involved. My black Lab Gus and Bull dog/border collie mix Simon took off after a squirell this moring. Simon came back after an hour but no Gus. I drove around for a bit hoping I could spot him from the surrounding roads but no luck.

I went looking on foot and followed the creek along our property down toward the lake. We have several beaver dams on the property and I found Gus next to the trail, back leg broken by a trap, shot in the head with a 22.

Someone had illegally placed traps on my property and Gus found one. We called the game warden and he came out, confirmed that Gus had indeed found a trap and that someone shot him in the head when they found him in the trap. The game warden went off to talk to some boys that are known to trap in the area. There is only one man in the county that buys pelts and he will be talking with him tomorrow to get a lead on who is trapping our creek.

Needless to say I want to find the coward and beat him to within an inch of his life. Gus' leg was broke, it could have been fixed or in the worse case removed, but he would have lived. This son of a bitch shot him. The Game Warden and I found wherre several traps had been but whomever it was pulled the traps, most likely in fear of being caught.

This is a small community and by this afternoon everyone around already knew what happened. Someone will find out who did it. THe game warden told me not to do anything that gets me in trouble with the Sheriff, but in my shoes he told me he'd want to shoot the bastard too.

Not a good day at the Stanley home.

Can't believe that stan... sorry to hear.

So very sorry to hear this Stan. There really are no words to appropriately describe my sorrow and disgust for what you guys are going through. Thinking about you both and wishing you the best.

Thank you for the kind words guys, it helps. I am one of those guys that is generally calm and cool and about the only thing that really pushes me over the edge is messing with my loved ones. This is one of those situations.

Heather and I are both the type to joke around all the time and the humor around the house is pretty slim at this point. Heather is a rock, she knows how I am feeling. Her last words going out the door this morning were "Don't go shooting anyone before I get home, I want to be there"

The pain and loss will pass with time, the anger against the slime that did this will not, I'll just have to find a way to deal with it. Humans that can kill like this have no place among the rest of us. I can handle trapping itself, I dont like it, but I can handle it. But the psychology of a person that can kill a man's dog under these circumstances I can not accept. I will allow the game warden to conduct his investigation and see what comes of it.

If not acceptable to me, I will investigate it myself. This person should hope that the law finds him and deals with him. I will not be so forgiving. I am sure I will calm down with time. Right now I am facing digging a hole and burrying my friend and would have no problem hurting the person that created this situation.

Thanks again Jerry. No news from the game warden yet. We were out to dinner last night at a new restaunt. The owne sat down and spoke with us for a while and the subject of dogs came up, she already knew the story. I also went and introduced myself to a neighbor who's property backs up to mine at the far end to see if he knoew anything or had granted permission to trap on his property. He too already knew. He found out at church late Sun afternoon, it had happened Sun morning.

This is a small comunity and it seems the word is out. I think that we will eventually find out who this person is.

Now for some good news :)

I've been working on cleaning up the trans and T-cases today. Several ours and lots of scrubbing has removed almost all the "Mung" off them. Mung-def (or at least mine) 28 years of oil blow by mixed with dirt and mud baked on the trans and T case by their own heat.

Much nicer to work on clean equiptment and when in the rig it will be far easier to spot leaks. They will also run cooler without all the insulation the mung provides. Hopefully I will get to splitting the donor case later today. For now I am going to finish my coffee and head back to the shop.

Stan - glad to hear you are able to progress to some extent.

However, I'll say that forgiveness will do a lot of good to your soul. But remember; forgiveness does not justy an act; it is not you conceeding to a known wrong. It is a step to putting it behind you and closing that wrong. It is hard if not impossible to live your life w unforgiveness.

I agree that forgiveness is good for the soul. THere are some times when it is not appropriate for me. This is one of those times. This person tresspassed on my property, set traps on my property, one of which snapped my dogs leg in two and then instead of being a man, he shot my dog and left him there on the trail.

There will be no forgiveness on this account. I will have no problems putting it behind me. Someone messes with me, fine I can deal with that, mess with someone I love or my dog, you need to find a place to hide and stay there. Sometimes you just have to take a stand for what you believe.

Oh man.....I just saw this. So sorry to hear it Stan.

I'm having a hard time right now coming up with the words to describe how angry you must be. Hell, as Ramon said, I'm pretty pissed just thinking about what kind of worthless POS would do something like that. As much as I know that forgiveness is good for the soul, as Jared said, I agree with you, Stan. If someone did this to Marley, and I came face to face with the SOB that did it......somebody big better hold me back or I'd beat 'em to within an inch of their life, or closer.

That said, the sensible thing is to give the authorities a chance to do their job. The best thing to do right now, if you can (and I'd understand if you couldn't), go out in the garage and work on your truck. Keep your mind occupied.

I've been in the shop working on the doubler today. A couple of frozen bolts and some heat and beating later I have it all apart and am on the way to putting it all back together. Of course I am out of anti-seize, or at least I cant find it so I am off to the auto store to get some. No more frozen bolts for me!

I am letting the game warden do his thing and doing some investigating myself through some people I know here that are life long residents and hunters. Everyone my wife and I have spoken with about this feels the saem, that this was the act of a coward and there is no amount of thought that could somehow make it a justified act.

We will let the law handle it for now and see what they come up with. If I find out who it was before they do I will tell the game warden and see where it goes within the legal system. As it stands he will face around $5K in criminal fines from what the game warden told me. Heather did some research and also found that in the eyes of the law by trapping and taking game off my property without permission he is also open to civil suit. So for now I am keeping my head and letting the law handle it. Hopefully I will not lose my head when I see him in person.

I appreciate all the kind words guys. Most of us are dog lovers and understand what this means. Thanks again, it really does help. Off to the auto store, wonder what else I'll need that I'll forget :)

I was able to get the doubler together and bolt the T-case up to it today. Tearing down the donor case took a while because two of the bolts were seized into the case. Nothing some heat could not handle, just time consuming.

The quality of Marlin Crawler equipment is well worth the money. I could have purchased a doubler from Trail Gear but I felt this is a true case of you get what you pay for and went with Marlin, no regrets at all on that front. Marlin invented it and has perfected it over the years including better bearing support and better oiling.

I am hoping to find some time tomorrow or Tues to bolt up the trans and install it all on the back of the motor.

I had a pretty productive afternoon in the shop today. Got the trans and cases bolted up to the motor and supported and sat the cab on the frame rails to get a feel for how things will line up.

I did some measuring and I think that I can lower the motor and drive train 2” in the frame rails and still have a flat belly pan and have enough to clear the upper link in the front end at full stuff.

I went with the rotated case doubler to make sure that the front drive shaft would clear the cross member supporting the T-Case, turned out to be just enough and keep the cross member above the bottom of the frame rails. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.:)

A little time with the sawzall and the cab floor and firewall were gone. I’ll be building all new to replace it once the final position of motor and drive train position is finalized. Cross members and seat frames will carry the new flooring and firewall.

As the cab sits right now it is 6” from the bottom of the frame rails up to the bottom the of the seam on the rocker panels and 14” between the outside of the frame and the same seam. I plan to boat side this area. The cab still needs to move forward about 6” but the cowl is making contact with the top of the intake manifold. Once the motor is dropped in the frame this will no longer be an issue.

Dropped the cross member so the bottom is in the same plane as the bottom of the frame rails, It’ll hold two bolts for the belly pan. Urethane bushings and 9/16” bolts.

The driveshaft flange and U Joints are the determining factor here, on how much to remove from the plate and how close to the plate.

I was able to get all the cross member pieces fabbed up and welded today.

This section bolts to the transfer case, bolts through the urethane bushings to the cross member.
