Oh what is the largest AUX tank that does not go where your spare goes? (that is where My pane tank will go....)
Probably any of the "replacement" tanks which replaces the main/factory gas tank would be it.

Not sure if anybody makes anything that would go anywhere else.

Unless you're gonna jerry(sp) can it on the rear/above the vehicle. :D

Mot (As usual, not offering any useful info.)

Given the long, narrow open space btwn the rear drive shaft and the exhaust it may be possible to fit a tank there. My first guess of an application would be a tank from a 70's era GM pick-up. Those came in 16's or 20's depending on wheelbase. I've no idea if they would fit or not, but that's where I'd start.

There are a couple of options for the auxilliary fuel tank next to the driveshaft. The Long Ranger 70 liter (18.5Gal) aux. tank.

I was lucky enough to find a used tank from a MUD member. Now all I need is the 38 gallon replacement tank and I am good to go for an extended non-stop drive. 50 gallons @ 20mpg (or so, hopefully) with the 12HT swap. I am looking at about thousand mile range, how does that sound like for the Bolivian salt plains Josh?

Isn't that tank for a RHD vehicle ? Or does it matter ?

I don't think it matters if it's RHD or LHD. The diffs are located on the right no matter which drive the vehicle is, so that leaves a large opening on the left side. Most aux tanks fit in this spot, between the frame rail and the driveshaft.

Here is a link to a OZ shop that has several tanks for 60s (or should I say "had" cause I have not talked to them in a while). I priced a few, the by-the-drive shaft one and the spare tire area one..with shipping either of them was going to be over $1k+. So I forgotaboutit..

Out Of Town 4WD

The by-the-drive-shaft tanks I have seen are from OZ and mount on the Right side of the rig. The exhaust system is on the left of most rigs in the US..I dunno about right hand drive exhaust systems but I would think they would be on the left no matter the steering system..

Meatsauce or Doc,

What size screws (bolts) did you use for the sender? The OEM screws are too small (!*%^$!!) Of course this had to be found out on a Sunday night...

I dunno, this FUC*ING tank really fights you at every turn... Holes don't line up (had to grind) and the stinking sender hole doesn't match the access point in the body, so I had to drop the tank again (and then found out about the sender screws.

If anyone is thinking about the MAF tanks, there are probably better choices out there with much less headache.

Emailed man-a-fre to ask when they might stock the fj62 big tank again. Any other options besides them and opposite lock?

I WONDER IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN A GROUP BUY?
Maybe we could get a better price, MAF doesn't ever follow up w/me on ordering or estimating the timeframe of delivery.
I'd really like to get one of those AUX tanks so I could just add to the OEM one and keep my spare below when I'm not wheeling.

I've emailed Northwest Metal Products and asked them if they have any plans for a tank to fit in an FJ60.

Greg,

The cost will be about $925 for the kit, we may actually be getting some more in stock here very shortly. Please clal us anytime if you would like to reserve one for when they arrive. Let me know if I could be of further assistance. Thank you.

I've left emails for them to reserve me one, but I NEVER hear back and there is NEVER any record of me reserving one. Others have posted up with similar situations, so I'd love to hear if anything ever comes of it

Reserving one

As far as I know they did the same untill I ordered one, then sat and waited as delivery was contingent on arrival from oz and a host of other factors, they finally did however come thru.

I "reserved" one. Steve called when it was in. I went and picked it up.

I have a long range tank for my 60 that I bought from someone on Mud and have some questions. It was said to be from man-a-not-free but it doesn't have any tabs to bolt it to the body. I was going to weld tabs to it but wanted to be sure that is what others have done. I called man-a not- free and they said yes it didn't come with any mounting brackets.Have any mudders extended the stock straps? any pictures would be helpfull. Thanks

If you go back a few pages there are some very clear installation pictures.

Yeah I saw those but what is not clear is if man-a-not free sold him that tank with the tabs as it seems they did several tanks over the years. That tank is definetly different from the one I have although the same paint the configuration is slightly different.

So back to original question to weld tabs or to fabricate straps and what are the good bad and ugly to each option.

The newer tanks from MAF came with the mounting brackets attached, and with adapter brackets for the rear-bumper-area mounting points (where straps would fasten). No straps were used.

Bought mine about 4 years ago.

Far as you welding on brackets, have no idea of the construction of your tank and if the material is robust enough to hold the weight on brackets vs straps.

My tank LOOKS just like the man-a-not-free tanks minus the tabs... I'll try and get some pictures up here and hopefully someone has had the same experience. I'm planning to try and make the same straps that came off the oem tank but LONG and see if that works my fear is it won't really fit clean and may wiggle and I have a thing about weird noises and wiggles.
