I hope that was it, but it turns out my rear reservoir is completely empty, front still full. I couldn't find any puddles and it worked perfect last week and was then parked. Explains why I had some stopping power. Reading has pointed me to a possible leak from the MC into the booster. I'm pricing out on replacing both. It sounds like it's worth it trying to locate Aisin/Toyota MC, but I'll have flexibility with the booster. Rock-Auto has boosters for about $100 from a company "SKP", anyone have experience with them?

Never heard of SKP. The last booster I installed was on my FZJ80. I used a Centric brand booster because there were no OE boosters available at the time. It works fine. I have used the NAPA boosters on 40's and 60's with success. I don't worry too much about the booster brand as long as it fits right and works.

Any recommendations for a good mechanic for general maintenance (2008 LC) in Greensboro? I'm looking for someone who is honest, knows what they're doing, and pays attention to detail. Unfortunately I've had mixed experiences at the dealership. I saw a post a few years old for Mike Blackmon in High Point. Any other recommendations? Thanks.

Greetings Fellow Cackalacky Cruisers,

My R151 (I think that is the code) manual transmission is in need of a rebuild. Is there anyone in NC that you all would recommend for this? Shipping to CA for Marlin Crawler seems like a lot of extra shipping.

Thanks.
Rich

Hey guys, looking to get a transmission drain and fill done on my '11 570. Any recommendations in the Raleigh area as far as a shop that can handle the job and knows their way around a Toyota/Lexus?

Call Renaissance auto in Cary. They have been helpful with all my 100s. Talk to Jay.

I just did this on a '11 GX; not a bad DIY project if you want to do it yourself...

These helped:

there is a place called mostly toyotas, or known commonly as mostly's. dont have a number for you though.

(Making an effort to get back on 'Mud after a looooong time away!)

Looking to see if there are any updates for WNC? I used AVO in Mills River, outside of AVL, have no complaints. Mostly looking to see what the other options there are out this way. Willing to drive 1-hr or so for the right shop.

I'm do for a 90k, my AHC needs some attention, most likely willl add air bags to the mix in the rear and probably some of stuff I don't even know about yet...

Mostly - This location referenced on page 3 is still around and I have seen a sweet FJ40 there once in a while when I pass by but don't know much about the shop.

How far is trollhole in Simpsonville?
Maybe 1.5 hr I’d guess.

We had 1 LC specific mechanic in AVL but he ended up being a junkie. Avoid Phoenix Motorsports at all costs.

Haven't heard much about Mostly, but they're the only dedicated Toyota focused shop in town.

If you're picky then the drive to Greenville for @Trollhole Cruisers is your best bet.

While I appreciate my good ol boy mechanics out in Leicester I'm pretty much in a place where I wouldn't recommend them out for more detailed work, or LC specific work.

aaaand @Malleus just liked my post and I forgot Dave mentioned you're around now, too. So you're in Charlotte? That's still about 2 hours away but better than 6!

I use Benfield Autoworx in Bethlehem NC just north of hickory. I drive 1.2 hours to let him work on my cruiser. Knows his stuff. Previous Toyota master tech that is a one man show out of his home shop. Trust worthy and jam up. Just took my 40th after thinking I had blown a head gasket at 280k miles. In one day he came back and replaced plugs, repaired exhaust leak, found wiring loom damaged causing #5 injector to constantly flood cylinder and cause smoking and skipping. Repaired and back in three days for a really good price. I was on the ropes and he was super fair, fast and honest. If you are anywhere near, go there and tell him Shane sent you.

I appreciate the feedback on all accounts. Good to know there are options!

Any recommended shops in the Triangle? In the past I took my 100 to Renaissance in Cary, but when I recently called to get an estimate, Jay said he'd call back. I didn't hear back for a week so I called and left a voicemail. Still nothing. I'm guessing they are swamped at the moment (or perhaps a tech left or something, who knows). Anywho, I wanted to have a second option in the interim if there's a good one (or one to avoid). I've heard good things about WASP, but I have no clue if they do trucks.

Not cruiser specific but Creech Automotive does good work... they are a week or two out on appointments but quality work by reputable mechanics. I take the wife's GX there for service. Not the cheapest but you're not getting shade-tree level service either.

Sorry to hear about your experience at Renaissance. I've had service on my GX there multiple times and it's always been a good experience. He recently installed a transmission cooler for me only last month actually.

Got a 200 series that is reaching the 200k mi mark and I'd like to tackle a valley plate leak. Anybody here recommend any shops around Raleigh or south of it that have experience with working on newer cruisers? if not, i'll probably do it myself but I'd prefer not to since i've got a lot on my plate at work for the rest of the year. I'll probably give Creech a call since they seem to be the most Toyota centric shop.
