Here is a transmission shop to AVOID at all costs! R & R Transmissions, Asheboro, NC. Took a 4 speed for inspection there on advice from the shop that did my FJ40 head work. I was assured they were competent. Several weeks later, the 4 speed was still in the same spot I left it in. But the owners sons were quite busy with their dirt track cars.
 
Mungle, are you looking for an LC reputable shop or introducing yourself? If the latter, I recommend you go to the member ONSC Membership+Registration Info thread, we are very much alive and kicking
 
Come out to the get together or any of the gatherings on the posts, a group is planning to hit the trails on 1/1 too. For shops, there are a few posted in the prior pages, I have used Endy's Imports on 27 near Albemarle, and Hardline Fabrication (Stan is the owner, NCFJ) near Greer SC.

Hrm...my apologies, Burt's my DD, took him to Uwharrie to fool around after I replaced the tires the PO had on them, almost cost me the passengers side runner :D. Had a mint Z3 as my actual DD but she got eaten by a Traverse. So I've got a rig that needs a knuckle rebuild, and new wheel bearings, the diff fluids swapped, possibly new U-joints on the DS, and a PS pump that doubles as an automatic oiler for the frame. I hear people pay extra for the last bit haha. Rebuilt the steering box myself, and have all the tools and parts and fluids/greases needed for the knuckle, but no time to do the job.

Insofar as I know Burt's bone stock, but that'll change in a year or so.

Try Toyota Techs in Fort Mill, SC if you need to stay local. Plenty of folks here say good things about them; I've have no experience there. They've been mentioned plenty of times in this thread.

BTW, you don't need those running boards anyway! Let some sliders be one of your first purchases. Also, feel free to start up an introduction thread here so all your details and questions are in one easy-to-find place.

There are a lot of us in the CLT area (and a ton are 80's) that you'll likely get to know. What part of town are you in?

I hail from the podunk little town of Iron Station, used to live in Charlotte off Pencade Lane but had a mishap with my Z3 and am convalescing with my parents till I figure out where I want to strike out next. Only saw one other 80 the whole time I was in Charlotte, lived a few doors down, rest were 100s, some with 26's....blach.
 
Just met a few of the Old North State Group last night at Shandor's party. Wife and I had a great time and look forward to doing things with the group.

I have not seen a good Mechanic recommended yet in this thread for Greensboro. I have a 60 and two 100's that need some different things. The 60 needs a new clutch and good look over...
 
Not cruise or Toyota specific but competent mechanics I'd trust would be Webster import service off Boeing dr. by the airport

Also further down in high point Mike at Blackmon imports could fix you up as well. A good friend and mechanic who has a admiration for cruisers and looking to get back behind the wheel of one.
 
For body, paint and custom work I can highly recommend Tinman, Hot Rods, Customs and Restorations in Thomasville. His work is excellent and his labor rate is very fair. Good folks to deal with and super helpful.

+1 on Mike Blackmon. Although his labor rate is high, he is very helpful and goes the extra mile to make sure his work is correct and keeps his word. I will be taking some work to him today in fact.

Picked up my Cruiser from its 2nd visit to SLK Automotive in Charlotte. I can't say enough good things about this place. The owner Spiro is an old school Porsche specialist that spent years as a factory Porsche tech and now runs his own shop. He primarily works on German cars however he's a huge Toyota fan and owner. He's happy to work on my 100. I think he enjoys the change of pace.

They advertise themselves as alignment specialist since he does a lot of German car set ups but he does other work as well like timing belts, tune ups, etc. Super nice guy and extremely knowledgable. If you are in the Charlotte area I suggest you give him a call. They are located in South End off of Tryon. Feel free to use my name, Lincoln Steelman, as a reference. :cheers:

I heard a lot of good things about this guys. Old school mechanic that will fix anything that the porsche dealership cannot fix. It is good to know that he also works on LC

Exactly! I started going to him for alignment work on my Audi that was lowered. He can do custom camber alignments and set ups and still does everything with a measuring tape the old school way.

Was there one day and just happened to ask about working on the LC which turned into a 30 min conversation about his respect for Toyota trucks and the rest was history. Be aware he does like to chat :D
