Anyone else running limit straps. The PO's mechanic installed these. I haven't yet cycled the suspension to see if they are the correct length.

That strap doesn't allow for enough travel when driving thru town!

^ Nice setup... Looks like the PO also installed the longer travel bilstein 5100 shocks as well... Parts possibly come from Just Differentials or one of their kits?

The front drops about 2.5" when lifting the front end with a floor jack. Not a great pic.

Is that the Suspension setup from Just Differentials? Carls UCAs with Bilsteins? Im guessing if the fat guy in the back seat gets out that rear strap will be tight...just say'n.

Is this one of those "Jeep things"?

Is this one of those "Jeep things"?

The PO had the LC built by a guy who's main experience was off road racing. I kinda like them on the front. I figure it might lighten the load on the front IFS.

I could be unlearned in the ways of 100's...I'm an 80's guy, lurking because I'm trying to move up to a 100 Series, and maybe I'm just plain unlearned in some aspects of suspension set up...but here's a couple things I thought were generally true:

1: 100's "IFS weakness" was that the lift achieved was done so by torquing TB's to the point that there wasn't much down travel left. That and some characteristics of how it operated as a suspension on rocky terrain were somewhat different from solid axle trucks (one side creating downforce for the other)

2: That the back of a 100 Series enjoyed the same benefits as the 80 in that the coil and solid axle in back had amazing articulation. (Both the 80 and the 100, therefore, being stronger RE articulation on the rear than the front)

Are these things true?

If so, then it seems to me that you wouldn't want to strap the back, unless loosing the coils is your concern, at which point those straps would be a lot longer, right?

And the front doesn't have much left to go on the down-travel and it may be redundant. I don't know...

Not throwing stones or anything, just trying to get a broader understanding...

Are those aftermarket uppers?

When you post up about spring noise on the rear end, it looks like the bolt for the limiting strap is hitting the spring.

It was after I changed the springs but I've since replaced ths bolt. Good catch.

It looks like the spring is scraping on the side of the bump stop and frame.

Depending on where the strap limits the front suspension droop in relationship to the spherical bearing bottoming out*...you'll want to keep a close eye on that dimension because straps stretch...especially given the mechanical advantage the lower arm has over the strap relative to the mount location of the strap. And you don't want the spherical bearing taking the bottom out/droop hit.

*If you have an inch or so currently between the droop limit of the strap and full bottom out of the spherical bearing (aka "uniball") then you're probably safe.

Rear strap could have been installed to avoid the shock acting as a travel limit (shock killer) or to retain the spring if the shocks have a ton of travel. I'm guessing the shock is too short and the strap protects it. In the picture it looks like the upper rear strap mount nut may be impacting the spring?

The front strap could be for shock protection as well. Off road racing = jumps and lots of air time which will kill shocks if they are the only travel limiter. The shock ideally does damping only, no limiting.

I agree with spressoman that the leverage on the front straps is extreme and they may stretch/fail in time.

Limit straps may be a good thing on the full JT front kit with Kings and UCA's, when all is new the CV may be fine but as the urethane and rubber soften the travel can increase further leading to CV issues. On the other hand the kings may handle the unloading well (short of racing/jumping) for general use.

What do the vendors of the high dollar shocks recommend? Limit straps up front? Do any of these shocks have internal limiters to eliminate the need for straps?

thanks

Do you know what length the front limiting strap is? Most people offering them have a range from 10" and up from there. Is that short enough for the front set up?

I think that both King and Radflo are internally limited. The only person I remember running straps had Fox shocks
