so I need to replace my differential because previous owner seemed to have a heavy foot :) , I Have LSD on my 100 series from factory but it seems expensive to get the replacement parts , I can get an open diff from 80 series that should fit it but my question is ? does it really make a difference to have LSD against Open diff?
im not going to do crazy off-roads but occasionally I like to drive on the beach and small sand dunes and just try to go off roading if needed but nothing crazy !
Id like to hear your opinions because I could save some money if there isn't alot of difference !
thanks

LSD is better than open diff. Other than that I don't think 80 series rear diff is compatible with 100 series. 100 series rear diff ring gear is 9.5 inches and 80 series ring gear is 8 inches. Unless your LC is 105 series. 105 and 80 series share the same ring gear size. 80 series has 30 splines and 100 has 32 splines.

Thanks for your input , in Venezuela the FJ80 came out until 2007 so they share very few parts with the 100 and the open diff is one of them , over here they never produced the 100 series and produced 80's until 2007

LSD is very helpful during rainy conditions, it gives your vehicle acceleration predictability, when one side is slipping the limited-slip planetary gear locks the opposite side so it rotates 1:1 instead of the other side continuously spin. In soft/loose sand, LSD and/locking diff is almost irrelevant, air-down and momentum (speed) is what you use to avoid getting stuck in that type of condition.
