I’ve been there in August. You picked the right time to go
We looked at coming here a year or so ago and one look at those summer temps and we quickly decided against it. We’re fairly adventurous when it comes to camping but we don’t have a death wish.
Rig and trailer still looking great. Have a great Christmas.
Thanks and same to you and yours, we’re spending the Christmas break with people who matter most.

Knocking on wood here, everything is looking and running well.

Good morning (or evening), would you give us the rig rundown of these trucks in your group? They look fantastic, I am sure we all would love more info; the area, the trucks and the trip in general. Tks!

Hello, thank you for your interest on this.

I was a participant, I have no commercial interest on this event, however you can check it out through their website and YOUTUBE videos.

The rig rundown I'm not sure what it means, I'm Portuguese, not that fluent in English language, but I'll try to explain what were in my group (5 cars) from TEAM ROSENDO.

The first was the oldest, a 1996 LANDCRUISER HZJ80, this was the only one to have done this raid, at least, 6 times, previously, and still going strong, APV suspension, 50/50 TOYO tyres and that's it!

The second from the group, a 2001 LANDCRUISER Prado KDJ95, D4D, with almost 300.000kms (passed this mark somewhere in Mauritania), with OME suspension, BRAID wheels, ARB air-compressor, ZERO fridge, snorkel, WARN winch, FOCAL Universal and ALPINE sound system, etc., etc., etc.

Standing close to these two, we find a 2006 LANDCRUISER HDJ100, ARB air-compressor, double locked (plus factory central diff lock) , front bar, snorkel, sub tank, snorkel, drawers, fridge, WARN winch, ECOFLOW power source KING suspension, BRAID wheels, FOCAL Performance and MATCH sound system, Android headunit, etc., etc., etc.

I come in 4th, with a 2016 LANDCRUISER VDJ200, OME-BP51's, DAKARZERO wheels, ARB air-compressor, sub tank, snorkel, drawers, fridge, WARN winch, ECOFLOW power source, DONALDSON's airbox, FOCAL Elite, KENWOOD headunit and MOSCONI PRO sound system, etc., etc., etc.

Last but not least, a 2020 LANDCRUISER Prado KDJ150, OME-BP51's, BRAID wheels, ARB air-compressor, sub tank, snorkel, drawers, fridge, WARN winch, ECOFLOW power source, FOCAL Utopia and MOSCONI PRO sound system, etc., etc., etc.

Sometimes we were all together, sometimes we were not, it was a 10.000+ kms adventure/expedition that went for 3 weeks, from December 27th to January 10th (the 15th back home) with a lot of fun, a lot of sand, rocks, snow, gravel, water, mud, you name it, we got it all, at the same time through out the days.

All cars finished in DAKAR (Lac Rose) beach, without major issues but the normal in such an adventure, no one was hurt, ill or injured, everthing went smooth, it's an organized (payed for) expedition, we were a bit over 100 participants from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, England, Sweden, Holland, Belgium and Germany!!!

In the end I have thousands of pictures and videos, everyone else has the same but I'll just post a few here that represented the highlights, for me, of this expedition, I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I enjoyed participating.

Well, North-Western Africa is increasingly popular for Europeans :-) I've just took part in another organized event - the Budapest-Bamako charitable rally :-) And of course we camped in our LC. Enjoy the pics :)
I'm pretty happy with my setup!

Indirect rock lights are the best at camp to find just that right spot in an unfamiliar place. Great to preserve night vision. And they're just fun to have.

Great spot! Where is this?
Sinks Canyon, WY. I was delivering a RTT to its new owner. Took my kids and did an overnighter. It was a nice little trip and they paid for delivery.

Spent five nights in this spot (south-eastern British Columbia). Came home on day 6 absolutely exhausted (we were supposed to spend a few more nights here and then head to a provincial park for another week of camping).

This is our favourite spot, where we've camped five or six times now, but haven't been in the last 5 years. About 6 hours from home, so getting there is a lot of effort. The only real problem this time around was the bugs - endless mosquitos, flies, horseflies, and even ants endlessly feeding on us; I have more than 100 bite spots, no exaggeration. We've never had issues with bugs here before, but this trip was insane. My wife, kid and dog were similarly eaten alive.

Set in a valley, in between two tall mountains, and right on a fast moving river.

We've had a fairly wet summer so far, which worked out in our favour as campfires are still allowed. This was the last night, burning whatever firewood we had left.

River about 30 metres behind the trailer.

The first few days we had weather alternating between pouring rain and beautiful sunshine about every 30 minutes. Very frustrating.

Endless great views.

This old girl had a pretty decent last camping trip. At 13 years old and with countless health issues, she's very close to the end. Glad we got her out to this spot one last time and made some memories (and many photos)!

The water level in the river went up about 6-7" in the six days we camped here. I'm always wary of setting up camp near water (be it lake or river) and always keep track of the water levels by placing markers on the edge of the water to see how/if it changes over time.

That's a 150ft, orange garden hose pulling water from the river to the trailer. We absolutely loved having endless water. The toddler got hot baths (outside) 2-3x per day, which gave us some much needed (if short) rest each time.

First time finding a porcupine in the wild. Also saw a black bear on the road both on the way in and out, three deer, and a rabbit.

My ~570W of solar worked beautifully and had my 200ah of lithium batteries charged to 100% by about 5pm every day. Didn't have to run the LX (for the DC/DC charger) even once. Here it is putting in more than 20ah of charge into the batteries.

And this is why I love having a 12v fridge. 28.6c inside the trailer, fridge is easily holding 3.4c (set nowhere near max cool setting), while the freezer is MINUS 28.5c. Try getting that kind of performance out of a propane-powered, absorption fridge.

(It wasn't actually 39.7c outside, closer to 30-32c. My outside temp sensor is set inside the propane tank cover, which was hotter than ambient.)

With a second kid a few months away, we don't plan on camping any more this year, and likely not at all next year. Will be winterizing the trailer (in July! :( ) very soon.

Back in the 70’s, there was a documentary about how insects are the only other animal group besides humans that have steadily increased their populations. Eventually they were predicted to overrun the planet.
