Lots of chatter about vehicles transmitting ‘driving data’ to manufacturers and in turn, insurance companies. Lucky for us, the DCM (Data Communications Module) 5A fuse located within the interior fuse panel can be removed completely disabling this feature beyond just ‘opting out’ during the vehicle/account registration process. No codes or error messages. This does totally disable the SOS button too.

Simply pull the 5A DCM fuse from above the driver’s side footwell. See fuse block panel schedule snippet below.

Yes there's quite a bit of discussion about this with other models too. My brother has a '21 Supra, and toyota is pestering him now about bringing it in for a "free upgrade" to the comms module, so it will talk on 5G. Fear is that they are gathering driving data, to sell to insurers. He's ignoring them, but maybe pulling the appropriate fuse is also a good idea. That car is mostly BMW, so finding it will be tougher.

Yep. **** that. Nobody needs telemetry data on my driving habits or location.

World is becoming far too connected.

I’m still chasing it down on the 2014. It has SOS button so think it may be related to overhead panel fuse?

Let us know when you find it. My SOS button does nothing when I push it, pretty sure it's only 3G.

Important point to note that 2016 lx 570 has 3G module which has been decomissioned last year. There is no more 3G cell towers which can communicate with the vehicle. So i dont think you need to worry about telemetric data, it is not getting transmitted.
Remember when the app stopped working for 2016 lx 570 whrere you cannot sign up for remote start and other services, reason was 3G wavelength decomissioned.

For anyone finding this in the future, on a 2018 LX570, this also disables a bunch of vehicle customization menu items as well as killing the microphone on the hands free connection for phone calls.

Digging a little deeper, I found some stuff from the Tundra guys that looks promising.

I don’t think any of these will work on a LC200. Still think the app deactivation is best route..

I contacted "Connected services Analyticss" that, I believe, does the analytics service for Toyota & Lexus and this is what they said below...

From: FCRA-notice@connectedanalyticservices.com

Thank you for your inquiry. Connected Analytic Services is a consumer reporting agency that provides driving data to insurance companies on behalf of Toyota and Lexus owners who have given explicit consent for data sharing.

There are two ways owners can choose to share their data:
  1. Opt-in via the Toyota App to a connected service called Insure Connect, which enables Toyota owners to receive marketing offers for potentially discounted insurance.
  2. Consent at the time of quote to share historical driving data directly with the insurance company.
Please note: Driving data is never shared without affirmative owner consent.
If you would like to request an Annual Driving Report, please complete and return the attached form titled "RFD CAS Vehicle Driving Report" via email or physical mail.
Once we receive your completed form, we will verify whether data exists for your vehicle. If available, we will compile and deliver your Driving Report using the method indicated.

Thank you,
Connected Analytic Services

The auto companies got jammed up for providing data to insurance companies without consent through these third parties. There was a big NYT article a few years ago and following lawsuits. Initially it was GM, Honda, and Hyundai/Kia that got caught. I think that’s why it has to be opt in now instead of opt out.

Yeah I saw that the LC 200 wasn't on their lists but thought I'd mention them here anyway as I believe our members own more than one Toyota. Our ancient 2006 Avalon doesn't have any of this DCM stuff and still runs. But we're considering getting a new(er) Toyota or Lexus sedan and one of the things keeping us from buying (aside from being general overall cheapskates) is this analytics issue, so this caught my eye.

Also, I was quite amazed that there were products out there to do exactly what we're talking about. Apparently there's more demand for this than I thought.

I wrote connected services analytics and requested my full driving history and they said..

Thank you for completing and returning the Request for Disclosure document. Toyota first began manufacturing vehicles equipped to transmit telematics data in 2018, beginning with the Camry. The Land Cruiser didn't include a Data Communication Module until model year 2024. Since your vehicle was manufactured prior to that year, it does not contain a Data Communication Module and is unable to transmit telematics data. Let us know if we can provide further assistance.

So I think this means that the LC200 never transmitted telemetry or analytics data and the insurance companies did not get any data becuase of this...

So the LC200 does not transmit ‘driving data’ to manufacturers and in turn, insurance companies.

Thoughts?
