@trailbreaker9413 did you two sleep with the tailgate and hatch closed or open? I'm not a super tall dude and I have to sleep sort of diagonal. Didn't know if you guys were able to get a bit more room moving the front seats forward to give the folded backseats more room in their stowed position.
We had the tailgate closed. I’m 5’8” (~173 cm) and my feet were on the gate but not cramped. My wife is 5’4” (~163 cm) and fit no problem. I do sleep propped up a bit on a pillow. If you sleep dead flat, YMMV. We had both driver/passenger seats pretty far forward (I don’t like the front/rear seats to rub if I can help it): I don’t think moving them further forward would have resulted in any move space from the rear, as those seats were folded over about as far as possible. All told, sleeping in the rear with the hatch closed was doable, but the space limitation was noticeable. I’d do it again no problem, but I will also look into better options; specifically, a tailgate tent.

Not sure if it’s made for a J200, but I had a tailgate tent for my old ‘94 4Runner. It was a Safari Softshell made by XO Corp (for a Isuzu Rodeo I think, but I made it work with a PVC frame I built myself). Not sure if they’re still in business, but the website is still up; if so, I can recommend them based on my product that’s at least one decade old! If not, maybe there’s something similar back on the market with the popularity of overlanding.

With that tailgate tent, I never had a problem with foot space (or ventilation). Here’s some photos of the tailgate tent from a trip to the Painted Hills in OR circa 2015:

We’re slowly being surrounded by cows and now a bull.

I’ll gladly take the cows over the storm in the distance.

@TeCKis300 can you give me the details on how your iKamper is mounted? Are you using LFD crossbars?

Using 4x stock crossbars. There are some considerations to work through. Look in this thread for details

Second row out gives about 6’7 between the front seat backs and closed tailgate, just need to put a bypass resistor in the airbag plugs. I’ve been doing this for my trips for years.

I can vouch that a hatch tent works great with the 200-series. Perhaps even better as there's a tailgate which dramatically expands the back creating a nice flat floor.

After 2 weeks touring WY we finally found our breaking point with mosquitos. While airing up yesterday after driving through Medicine Bow National Forest for several hours looking for camping I was set upon by a swarm of what can either be described as biblical or apocalyptic, depending on where your faith lies both could qualify. My wife had already called the audible for a hotel after stopping at several mosquito infested sites. After 17 days of camping I was initially reluctant to concede, then while airing up and discovering the taste of mosquitoes and the sensation of blowing them out of my nostrils I was happy to oblige. We woke up this morning and headed south into Colorado. After enjoying the drive on roach road, Hohnholz lake, and deadman we found this spot. Sure, there are mosquitos but it’s a normal amount.

The audible crack and flash of blue light when a mosquito's wings get vaporized by a good electric fly swatter makes them much, much easier to tolerate.

But I still have a limit.

Sometimes one gets stuck in the grate and you can keep frying it.. the burning smell doesn't drive the others away as you'd expect. They have no honor.
