Inaugural overnight trip out in the Eastern Oregon desert, then across to western Idaho to a ghost town just south of Boise.
Sleeping in the LC was true luxury compared to prior accommodations in a '94 4Runner (which was still nice but required backpacking mattresses for head clearance). My wife and I used a simple twin air mattress we bought off Amazon in the back of the LC and had plenty of head room, enough to sit up strait in fact. Plus, the mattress pumped up with power from the 120V 100W outlet in the rear (surprised that worked given the limitation of that outlet I've seen on MUD). Very happy with the reduced time to set up camp.
To illuminate the rear, I bought some cheap tap lights from Home Depot, ironically in a silver that matches the interior silver trim perfectly. I mounted them with 3M velcro strips on the 3rd row seats and on the top of the rear hatch (you can see the black velcro tab on the hatch in one of my photos; I moved the light forward while sleeping for better light coverage while in bed mode). They cast really well off the beige roof and light everything up without shining directly by the eyes. And, I can reach them from the rear during everyday use very easily. So far, despite hot temps and wicked washboards, I haven't had them dislodge. Paying close attention to this though, as having one come off at night and lighting up the cabin while driving could be dangerous. I do actually use the 3rd-row seats for passengers from time to time, so I'm keeping them in until I personally feel like they're becoming a PITA; so far, so good, and they actually created a nice shelf and cubby against the window when sleeping for clothes organization, etc.
I also worked out the crawl control a couple times, including up a fairly steep hill on loose cobble. Despite having Michelin Defenders and not airing down (i.e., limited aggression on the tread), the crawl control didn't falter once on the way up or down. I was skeptical of crawl control's practicality at first, but I'm a true believer now. Though, I may never be entirely comfortable with the noise and hard pulsing coming from the brakes, even if I know it's designed to use the ABS that way...
All in all, the 2013 Land Cruiser lived up to all the hype I've been hearing for decades. Not bad at all for any vehicle, let alone one that's 10 years old. Looking forward to getting out to more remote locations once I put on proper shoes. I had Toyo AT3s on my 4Runner and loved them, especially in snow, so that's next on the list!
