Hitting Medano? It’s an easy yet very scenic trail that drops you in to the east side of the dunes.
We sure did! It was incredibly windy while we were there, so we snuck a ways up Medano to hide out from the wind in the trees during the day. A couple of fun water crossings too!

That is one sexy drawer setup
Thank you! We're pretty pleased with how the products have come together at Air Down Gear Up. Feels like cheating when you go to cook a meal. haha

If I have any more that are noteworthy from this trip I’ll report back.

I just bought a 2017 LC in white with HE wheels. I haven't even taken delivery yet. It's already got an OME 2" lift, but I will need new tires. I'm curious what lift you have and what tires you're running if you don't mind me asking...?

Same lift and suspension as yours and these tires… I think you can make it out through the tire dressing.

Looks fantastic, with or without mud. I'm actually thinking about running 295/65/18s, which would provide roughly the same diameter as yours, but 10mm more width. I wonder, however, if the 285 would provide better road manners compared to the 295. 285 is the stock tire width.

I honestly don’t know but I’m sure there is an exhaustive thread on this topic on here.

Inaugural overnight trip out in the Eastern Oregon desert, then across to western Idaho to a ghost town just south of Boise.

Sleeping in the LC was true luxury compared to prior accommodations in a '94 4Runner (which was still nice but required backpacking mattresses for head clearance). My wife and I used a simple twin air mattress we bought off Amazon in the back of the LC and had plenty of head room, enough to sit up strait in fact. Plus, the mattress pumped up with power from the 120V 100W outlet in the rear (surprised that worked given the limitation of that outlet I've seen on MUD). Very happy with the reduced time to set up camp.

To illuminate the rear, I bought some cheap tap lights from Home Depot, ironically in a silver that matches the interior silver trim perfectly. I mounted them with 3M velcro strips on the 3rd row seats and on the top of the rear hatch (you can see the black velcro tab on the hatch in one of my photos; I moved the light forward while sleeping for better light coverage while in bed mode). They cast really well off the beige roof and light everything up without shining directly by the eyes. And, I can reach them from the rear during everyday use very easily. So far, despite hot temps and wicked washboards, I haven't had them dislodge. Paying close attention to this though, as having one come off at night and lighting up the cabin while driving could be dangerous. I do actually use the 3rd-row seats for passengers from time to time, so I'm keeping them in until I personally feel like they're becoming a PITA; so far, so good, and they actually created a nice shelf and cubby against the window when sleeping for clothes organization, etc.

I also worked out the crawl control a couple times, including up a fairly steep hill on loose cobble. Despite having Michelin Defenders and not airing down (i.e., limited aggression on the tread), the crawl control didn't falter once on the way up or down. I was skeptical of crawl control's practicality at first, but I'm a true believer now. Though, I may never be entirely comfortable with the noise and hard pulsing coming from the brakes, even if I know it's designed to use the ABS that way...

All in all, the 2013 Land Cruiser lived up to all the hype I've been hearing for decades. Not bad at all for any vehicle, let alone one that's 10 years old. Looking forward to getting out to more remote locations once I put on proper shoes. I had Toyo AT3s on my 4Runner and loved them, especially in snow, so that's next on the list!

This was camp a couple nights ago, we had our hoods up because I had mice stowaway in my cruiser. One I spotted while airing down and I was able to run him over, the other popped his head up over the windshield wipers while we were driving… I was able to grab him and toss it off into the woods. Imagine my surprise being eyed down by a mouse while looking for a camp site.

What are y’all doing to prevent this? I haven’t seen any trace of mouse since then and it’s been a couple days and a couple sites ago.

Man that looks like a great spot.

No comment on the rodent problem, I’ve never had that happen

Have you checked for a mouse nest under the intake? It’s also possible they have a nest in the fresh air intake and are in the cabin filter. Hood up will discourage them temporarily. If you get rid of the nest, you’ll probably be ok on a trip. They likely moved in while you were parked at home?

They definitely moved in at the camp site the night before. I don’t believe they have had enough time to make a nest and I haven’t seen any signs of a long term residency. One was so dazed I was able to back over him. I keep checking under the hood for poop or foot prints and I haven’t see, I will check the cabin filter tho…good idea.

@trailbreaker9413 did you two sleep with the tailgate and hatch closed or open? I'm not a super tall dude and I have to sleep sort of diagonal. Didn't know if you guys were able to get a bit more room moving the front seats forward to give the folded backseats more room in their stowed position.
