Getting closer to the spare tire carrier build for my 60 series. Seems the drivers ( left ) is much more common than passenger ( right ) and not too common center.

Personally my preference would be the spare tire mounted on the passenger side. Seems the rear view mirror would have a little better rear view with a right side mounted tire. Input would be awesome.

Also happy Fathers Day fellas. From one 60s series dad to another.

Kids are awesome and hope to one day enjoy them in their own 60.

I’ve usually thought the tire on the drivers side allowed for more visibility when swinging your head around to check for traffic on the passenger side.

That’s why I’m asking before I decide what to build

You’re on 37s right? I agree with @aviafx and wonder if you can drop the tire to overlap the bumper on the left to maximize your visibility. Otherwise that’s gonna be half your rear window.

Let’s not forget about the elusive, limited edition, super special fourth option:

My vote is where it CANT swing out into traffic, regardless of the visibility.

Why not tape a piece of round cardboard to the back window same size as tire and position it where you think you'll like it - then drive around a bit & see if you like it- then try the other side

On both the 40 and 60 we offer to put the tire on either side. I've only gotten right side requests on a 60 from
non-US right hand drive owners. It's more about the blind spot since, as @tmxmotorsports stated, a big tire takes up most the view wherever you put it. I usually have my 60 loaded for camping all the time so I've gotten accustom to using the door mirrors more.
I try to load so I can see the right side blind spot over my shoulder. Left side blind spot is more easily visible just over the left shoulder.
The mirrors are good for 90%. It's that 10% I worry about just off the rear tires

To heck with traffic, try doing a 5 point turn on a trail and not being able to see that rear corner before it
costs a tail light! Or worse. I’m never worried about traffic, that’s what that big honking steel bumper is for! 🤨

I’m voting left for LHD. Right for RHD. AKA Driver Side. I don’t view “swinging into traffic” as a concern because you wouldn’t need to open the swingout to remove the tire, and not every flat tire happens on the highway. I wouldn’t want to risk visibility while driving for that. Also if and when I ever do I’ll be installing a back up camera to fully utilize the wits end mirror mount I have :)

Passengers side on my kaymar. I don’t even notice it any more.

passenger side on mine as well. Does not bother my one bit.

You fancy boys with your Aussie bumpers! I like the look even though I’d do the opposite. Looks like Hemi’s sits a little lower than yours Willard. Interesting

Creative camera angle??

If it hasn't been said above I would mount on the left solely due to not wanted to walk around the swing out unloading at a curb. My model is LHD. So the curb is on the right. Unless it folds all the way back to the body on the side like my work transit van.
