Made it to Ouray today! Excited to meet some of you glorious bastards.
Several restaurants were simply closed due to staff shortages. However, best latte/cappuccino is at Mojo’s Coffee (a real “specialty” coffee shop not trying to overdo it with food). We had brunch at the Outlaw, and it was really good (but pricey 😬).

Does anyone have an extra radio I can borrow or buy?

Here she is after rolling over 1k miles with over 5,000lbs on the rear axle:

@indycole. FYI: what I can only assume is your tire shipment is on its way across Denver now.

Another stupid question. Should I stay away from Imogene/Black bear without sliders? Or is this one of the times where big tires and an on-demand 2” AHC lift will save me?

@radman - i'll let you ride with me!!!!

For those wondering, I did imogene a couple weeks ago. It is getting significantly more chewed up than it has been in the past, I’m thinking because of the no-differential UTV traffic. A friend with a stock LX in high did fine with stock running boards, no contact anywhere. My cruiser with only about an inch lift in the rear dragged the rear bumper lightly a couple times. We did not attempt BBP.

Have fun people!

Aggh. Between dragging and rather high pucker factor for the family I am inclined to "pass" on Imogene.

No other easy options left on Friday or Saturday, though :( (and I was late to trail sign up so there weren't good alternatives when I chose the trails...). I am signed for Alpine Loop on Sat, but there are still spots on Friday it seems, so I could swap that, but still no good alternatives to Imogene on Saturday, either.

Seems the demand for easy trails this year outstrips supply...

Im not sure what high pucker factor on Imogene folks are talking about. There is a shelf road, but there is plenty of room as long as you are paying attention. Its not like there are inches to the edge

If anyone wants to meet for lunch in Ouray today around 12 or 12:30 send me a DM.

It’s all relative. My friends in the LX had never done this stuff before and to say they were puckered is an understatement. Still, they did fine following me, and perhaps for the uninitiated following eight other rigs will help a lot with confidence, but some drivers and passengers will get nervous on stuff like this. It’s just a fact.

The pucker areas were the washouts off the bedrock on the Ouray side once you get into the trees, tilting you toward the big creek. Or at least that’s where my friends were most nervous.

That said… @unclemat imogene is highly attainable. My drags were light and other than some love marks on the left rear corner of the bumper no damage. Perhaps better line choice could avoid even this. People go up and down this road in stock 4runners and all kinds of other stuff way less capable than our 200s.

If a family new to this completes it though.. let alone black bear. Amazing memories.

Edit: I hope my above post didn’t discourage people from going. It is still more than possible, just trying to give people an idea what to expect.

bloc- I see what you are saying. I still get a bit puckered on trails I have run 10 times. The start of Hells Revenge in Moab as you go up over the hump always puckers me a bit.

I was wrong to sate there is zero pucker. What I was trying to communicate is along as you pay attention, there shouldn't be any issues. The original question was on equipment and I don't see that as a limitation on these trails

So I am leading one of the Imogene runs on Friday. I will be on the radio telling folks as we go over something if they need to be concerned with something. I will stop and help anyone who is nervous or needs a spot

The key here is you are part of a guided trail run with communications between the vehicles. Any issue or concern can be discussed and like bloc said you just follow the vehicle in front of you.

If in the drivers meeting you tell me you are nervous, I will put you between two more experienced drivers.

As a trail leader along with my gunner (My daughter) it is our responsibility to ensure you a safe and fun run. Although I don't take a legal liability, I do take a personal one to help you enjoy the day any way I can.

I should point out since we are going Ouray to Telluride, the cliff part of the shelf road will be on the drivers side which in my view is easier as you can see it and know there is room. When you can see something easier to me thats less pucker

If not on a guided trail run with multiple vehicles, then when would you try these trails?

I saw on a Facebook group that there was a mudslide on 550 between Durango and Ouray that closed 550. I think it has been cleared as there isn’t any road closing showing on Google maps but I also can’t find that there really was a mudslide either.

Ha! I am in the other group going the other direction on Friday. Wish I was in yours...

I am really tempted to try because the scenery seems to be spectacular.

Minor high jack - but is there anyone else departing Denver early Wednesday morning like myself? Was planning to monitor CDOT road conditions around Glenwood Springs and make a game-time decision regarding route.

I will be pulling a 25’ TT so was thinking of Detour A headed south through Durango etc or Detour B headed north through Steamboat etc. if there are mudslide caused closures around Glenwood. Otherwise I70 to Grand Junction and down to Ouray.

Happy to caravan if there are any other drivers around the area?

I thought both groups were going the same direction. I could be wrong as I only focused on what I am doing

You have the flexibility to go into the schedule app and change
