I just got my new TT and read the article about sleeving toyota shafts with DANA size tubing 2.75 with .083 wall tubing. The article says it was avaliable thru NAPA for less than 2 dollars a foot. I spent 45 minutes and NAPA trying to get these guys to look it up, I even had to go and get the TT from my truck to prove to them that they can get it.

Anywho I was wondering if anybody had a part number for it. I Don't have a drive shaft shop with in 60 miles of me and would really just like to order it thru NAPA but they seem useless with out part numbers.

If anyone knows anything about something let me know :bang:

I would never build a driveshaft with anything less than .250" wall tube.

Neither would I for a trail rig ;)....This however is for a Street Queen.

Nice cover shot....Your rig is way to clean for how long you have been wheeling it.

Maybe this will help you, i know it dosent answer any questions, but its another way to do the same thing!

(From the Pirate Toy Section FAQ)
Driveline - Heavy duty DIY Material
A toyota driveshaft end has a machined OD of 2.435".
2.5'' Sch. 40 pipe. is 2.875" OD x .203" thick which is almost 1/4'' wall and is a good fit for the toy yokes. You just have to use an endgrinder or the like to knock the seam down in the pipe. Using the pipe to retube is good for rear shafts or if you have links and don't need all the slip of a square shaft. (also slides on rocks better than square) This is a cheaper alternative to the strange sized 2 7/8" x 7/32" wall DOM tubing which can also be used for a DIY driveline.

Sorry, I must have gotten lost -- thought this was the Hardcore Corner and assumed it was for a trail rig:D

More people are going to know more about drive shaft tubing here than any other section of mud;p

Good info man... I think I am going to try the sch80 approach on my trail rig. I have gone thru way to many shafts and its time to upgrade.

The Napa store had a machine shop they ran, rebuilding motors and such. They did not have a part number, just a big stand of many different sizes and lengths. When they billed it out it was under part number "misc".

Sounds good. Thanks for the info...

Just curious, do you really want a drive shaft that is strong enough to shear a pinion or bust a transfer case, if you fell hard on it?

Yes

Al - You and I are thinking alike - I just printed that article off of TLCA yesterday (membership expired) with the ambition to find a more suitable tubing so I can make a spare rear shaft with the mini double c and my 76 flanges (from the one I lent you parts on last year at GSMTR). The pirate link and tubing size is perfect. Good info.

Haley mentioned you were thinking (maybe dreaming) about a 14 bolt rear and a D60 front. As much as I'd like to see that - I'd rather have you two scrimp coinage and join us in Nicaragua this year - supposed to be some sik offshores all day long piling in off the lake! Food for thought you freaking LC junkie :hillbilly:.

I run that tubing on my Dodge, and it dented far too easy to my liking, doing a basic recovery of a stuck Jeep.

I replaced it with 'heavy duty' tubing from the local DS shop... which ended up being .083. Go .120-.188 or thicker if your driveshaft is at all venerable
