Most comfortable riding tire to install on stock LC 2010

Folks,

I need some advice. I am going to be replacing the stock tires on my 2010 LC and want to know what the best tire to use would be. I do not off-road, but would like a tire that has good traction in wet/snow conditions. I am not a fan of Bridgestone (which came stock on my LC), so any other manufacturer recommendations would be welcome. I definitely like a softer ride and don't want to lose MPG, if at all possible, but would like to have a higher ride. I would prefer a tire that would also fit in the spare wheel well. Lots of "I would like's", but let's see if anyone can give me a good recommendation.

Thanks,
-Ken

I have the same question. Thanks for posting Ken.

285/65-18 is about the biggest you can go without rubbing. Besides, why do u want a bigger tire on a stock truck? Lift it before putting bigger tires on. The suv will handle better as well and look beefier with the bigger tire size. Personally I want to put 295/75-18 on but it might rub mote than it's worth.

try the 'search' function...this topic has been addressed a lot already.

Let me start by apologizing for what I am about to write, please try not to misunderstand what I'm trying to say, but I find responses like this quite rude or impolite.

I understand that many of us may be tired of seeing the same things posted over and over again, but that is no reason for being rude.

In the future, all of us could look for the threads where the topic has already been addressed and add that information to the "use the search function" remark.

By doing this, we could convey the message while being kind and more human.

And I like 285/70R17 tires as the biggest possible tire as that is my stock wheel size!

Tucan:
I think Mark was simply pointing out that there is a lot of information posted, and the OP may find exactly what he/she is looking for without waiting for the rest of us to post up. It also makes a lot of sense when we see that Gadget has not been on Mud for very long. The first few months I was on, I did not know of all the features of the forum, and a reply like that would have been a good starting point for me.

On the other hand, I have seem smart*** posts before that were unmistakably rude, and those are intolerable.
Regards

g'day tucan.. i too am thinking about getting the biggest possible tires to fit my stock LC200.. mine do not have the height control. also without KDSS. so the suspension are all stock. i have wheels OEM toyota 17" rims with 285/65R17 tires.. can i fit 285/70R17 without lift and no rubbing?? does it improve the ride? please kindly do feed me with more information if you can.. thank you very much in advance. cheers!! jennifer

Size that may fit

After 30k+ on the **** tires that were on the truck when delivered (Dunlop AT something) I will install Michilens...not sure which model (probably the LTX M/S2 since I spend most of my time driving to the mountains in bad weather on highways and gravel roads)...have had them on all prior cruisers (95 and 2002) and FJ's. I think you might be able to swap a 275-65-18 on without much problem.

As for those of you who don't have anything productive to say...don't...., as it doesn't help those of us who use these trucks to transport our kids and friends to the mountains or fields accessable via graded roads. No disrespect...but please understand that there are folks who use these trucks for everyday tasks.

Take a CHILL PILL buddy. No ones 'dissing' anybody here far as I can read.

GG, BigDD and JJ. This topic has been covered repeatedly and you will find relevant threads if you search under replacement tires. However, for what its worth, I too have been researching the issue recently and can offer this summary from that search:

Your stock vehicle will likely handle a tire up to 32 inches - whatever combination of profile/rim size you use to arrive at the overall diameter. 285/65/R18 (32.6") might even fit depending on rim offset and/or whether you have KDSS or not. The scrubbing usually occurs on 3/4 lock so shifting the tire center can assist - or make things worse.

285/70/R18s (33.7") will scrub. You might be able to solve this by trimming mudguards - but probably not. A lift would be needed.

Hope that helps.

Jeniferjane: From a previous thread you said you were now happily running 275/50/R20. ? Gone back to OE already?

Hi,

I'm very sorry for taking so long to reply. In the photos below, you'll see a UZJ200 with 285/70R17 Pirelli ATR tires.
The owner, who has never taken it offroad, claims that they are a perfect fit, with no rubbing issues at all.

My apologies again for the delay in replying.

jenniferjanef, I know you were looking for a better ride. I had the Michelin Latitudes on my Cruiser when I bought it. I have changed to the Michelin LTX AT2's and the ride changed considerably.
The Latitudes rode like a dream and had great grip on the road but were not very durable off road. They had a very smooth ride but I had three flats from gravel cuts and decided to switch to the LTX's which are a 10 ply truck tire and ride like it.
Much more pronounced bumps and road feel.
They also feel like they run more freely and I think I am getting about 1 more mpg although I know that may be a statistical blip or a tire size thing. The Latitudes were 285r60 18 and the LTX's are 285r65 18.

Nice ride!

I have a 100 series. Someday I hope I can get a white or gold 200 series with an ARB and black tundra alloys

What are your thoughts or experiences on Geolandar A/T-S (Yokohama)?
My 2009 LC has about 40K miles on the OEMs and ready for a switch.
I was fairly happy with the Geolandars on my G500.

what is the conclusion of the spare tire maximum size fitting in the factory location?? I've already used the 'search' function.
thanks
