Someone broke into Ryan Eckland's garage and stole the following:

"My welder, plasma cutter, chopsaw, trailer winch, all kinds of stuff. The bastards even stole the battery out of my wheeling truck. My entire gear bag of dirtbike riding gear is gone, including a new helmet. A brand new trail-gear hydraulic steering assist kit, still in the box, as well as a premier power welder, still in the box are gone. "

Please keep a lookout for these items and remember to keep all of your possessions under lock and key.

Bummer. Some scum bag did his Christmas shopping in your garage. That should be a capital offense.

WOW.

Real bad stuff there.

If you don't mind saying, what area of ABQ was this in?

As I am looking for places to move to, I would like to stay away from areas where this might be more common than not.

Thanks and I'll keep an eye out.

I think Ryan lives close to me... at least he did a couple of years ago. There is no area anywhere in Albuquerque or even in the USA where stealing from others is uncommon. Some people like to think they live in safe areas but that is just an illusion. Case in point, there was a robbery + murder in Tanoan a couple of years ago. It is a gated community and the bad guys only have 1 way in and 1 way out past a 24x7 guard.

There is a rumor that there is a quaint little community in Colorado, nestled in a valley between 2 mountain ranges, where you can leave your doors open and the keys in your vehicle. Pollyanna moved there a few years ago. ;)

LOL

Good point.

Drive around until you find a neighborhood a bunch of cops live in. That's pretty much the only way to do it that I know of. But yes, Ryan (last I knew) lived in a god part of town.

Fairly close to Mike ... Copper, east of Tramway.

I have plenty of cops living in my hood and it doesn't seem to help. There has been a rash of break-ins on the west side in the Ladera area lately.

Pappy's right that the west side is more crime ridden. In fact, they stole our '85 4Runner from where Wendy worked near Wyoming and Montgomery (during the day) and found it over by Jon's a few weeks later - stripped. The one thing that's statistically common about crime areas is that crime is worse downstream of downtown. That's true in most cities.

True about no true place where theft won't happen. But if you believe there is on one way in and way way out at Tanoan you are mistaken. I hope you don't think that 24x7 guard is going to get in the way of a murderer (one in very few will). I can take a ton of fertilezer that would make one hell of a bomb (not that I would do that) into a much more sucured area with several armed guards without question, but let's not go there. As far as neighborhoods, mine has been great so far. Only a face plate stolen from the 4Runner in nearly 12 years (and a fire extinguisher from my bro's 40). About 30 years my neighbors only had some resin chairs stolen from thier front yard. But who knows what the traffic will be like through here with all the new building.

Harry,

Sorry to here about the break in at Ryan's. Hopefully things can be recoververed. I will keep my ears open to see if anyone tries to sell us stuff. We get them from time to time. Pics and name brands will be helpful if they do come around.

Here is more info from the thread on Pirate:

"Thanks for the help guys. My Millermatic 210 has vendor stickers all over it, and should be easily spotted. The Plasma Cutter is a Hypertherm unit, but not stickered up. The winch was a Ramsey REP8000 on a summitracing multi mount."

Are you talking about my badass doublewide I was living in? :grinpimp:

I quit locking the doors after 2 weeks. If a place looks as sh*ty as mine did, there isn't a chance I was gonna get robbed.

Move to Corrales

The cops are annoying but unlocked doors and open garages have never been a problem for me or my neighbors in the last ten years.

Either you or Fish. Either way, I'm jealous. I just installed motion sensing lights on the front porch and front of the garage because the neighborhood has been getting hit wtih auto break-ins. Granted, they're always the result of some moron leaving a cell phone, purse, brief case, laptop, whatever in their car and out in the open. And I leave the car that's worth the least out in the driveway and the other two in the garage. Anybody that wants in will get in but at least there's one more obstacle. I noticed recently that it looks like someone tried to forcibly pry up on my garage door. There is a dent along the bottom of the door right in the center. I have no idea how long it's been there. FYI - I live near Paseo and Golf Course for those of you that haven't been to my house.

I live in the Paradise Hills -West, and I heard from a friend at APD about month or two ago, that there where about 19 auto break-ins and a few house ones in a week in this general area west of Cottonwood, and south towards Paradise hills.

All you can do is lock your car, your garage, your house, and then make sure you have insurance, and hope for the best. Thieves will go where the goods are.

However, I think some general guidelines apply.. Onur, go to area you are consider living in both night and day a few times, to get the general feeling of the neighborhood. If you see thugs, look elsewhere. If there are thugs in the neighborhood making their presence known, loitering around at all hours of the day, its not the place to stay. No area's are safe, but some are more vulnerable than others, as its the neighbors that will do the break-in's due to opportunity, and knowing your schedule, etc.

The next time you have a few minutes to talk with one of those annoying cops, you should ask them about home burglaries in Corralles. I'll bet there are a lot more than you think there are. Our sub-division newsletter tries to keep us informed of local problems. One break-in is 1 too many but we have a lot more than that.

I really don't think locked doors and closed garages will deter a crook. My home was locked up tight when they broke down the front door (literally) and stole all our junk. Thankfully, they didn't go into the garage. I think the dog smelled them (Gocko was deaf) after a while and he woke up and ran them off. I hope he bit someone in the process.

Was this break-in recent? Too bad. I don't remember hearing about it.

I had a burglary on my property way back before the house was built. I lived in a ramshackle mobile home as I was trying to pay off the land. I think some kids broke out a window and only took small stuff that they could carry off. I felt violated. It ticks me off that crooks think they can just take anyone's stuff. They need to get a real job and earn a living. However, I hold no misconceptions that will happen.

Was this break-in recent?

It was this time of year about 5 or 6 years ago but I still feel violated and get angry thinking about the things they took. (I know... get over it Mikey.)

There is a rumor that there is a quaint little community in the East Mountains, nestled in a valley with a view of Mosca Peak, where you can leave your doors open and the keys in your vehicles.

Fixed it.

I've lived here 8 years, and the impotent stuff is either in the house with the Dobermans or stashed in a ratty lookn square box. :hillbilly:

One time a buddy was asked to crawl through the dog door to get spare keys. Pucker time!

Sorry to hear about the theft. Pawn shop & flea market patrol?

Thanks for being on the lookout guys! This is NO fun whatsoever. Do yourselves a favor, and fire up your fancy digital cameras and start photo-documenting EVERYTHING you have in the garage that you value. Many of my items were hand-me-downs from dad, graduation gifts, or long-ago purchases without receipts any longer. Photos are the only thing that will save my ass now when it comes time to haggle with the insurance company. PLEASE lock down your stuff, engage the slide-lock on your garage doors. My stuff can be replaced, but convincing my pregnant wife that our house is still safe is proving to be difficult...

Please call me immediately if you think you spot any of my stuff!

Ryan - at least you still have your rig. Consider yourself lucky there.
