As far as the paint goes, unless you're doing a top end full disassemble paint job, I'd stay stock. Absolutely nothing worse than a paint change that has parts of the old color still lingering....ugh..it's aweful. So stick color for me! also, I like the gray steelies the best, white spokes second, and polished aluminum or chrome never.

Next summer its going all the way down to bare metal. The PO had a very cheap paint job done to the cruiser. (drips, didn't paint every thing, left painters tap on the bezel) I know what you are saying about finding original paint. I have the original paint on the inside of my hood, both sides of my firewall, and underneath my front seats. It is very irritating!

I have decided on what rim for sure. I am going with my FJ60 rims. With that decided I need to pick my tires. I don't want anything bigger than 33". And preferably skinnies.

I vote for dune beige with powder coated white FJ60 rims. This is by far my most favorite FJ40.

My 76 its blue color..but its mustard OEM..i will vote in your case mustard with white rims fj60 or steelies..nothing like the classic look..

Beige with beige or black wheels is what I would pick, but that's just my taste. By the way, who's FJ is that beige one? I noticed a Maine plate on the back.

It's mine....I've always been a fan of dune beige and big fat mud tires....but the rut cutters do look right on steelies.
The 40 lives in PA. It was registered in Maine for a while.

My cruiser has the Outlaw wheels, and I hate them. They make me think of jeeps for some reason.

I have a set of White Wagon wheels that will be fitted hopefully by the end of the summer. I need to paint them and remount the tires.

Go mustard with painted gray or black 60 wheels. I'm not a fan of white wheels, that's what's on my 40 now. As soon as I get some $ for tires the 60 rims in my basement will be getting blasted and a fresh coat of gray. I can't find any pics right now but if you search the 60 section you'll find them.
