I'm proud to say that I am the proud owner of a 1997 FZJ80 40th Anniversary. I picked it this past weekend. Miles are on the high side at 250K, but the PO had all maintenance records and the engine and transmission felt strong. It has a 3" Downey lift (Springs, shocks, and control arms). It came with 285/75/16 tires, but they were getting pretty worn, so I have 5 315/27/16 BFG KM2 along with 5 black steelies on order. They should be on Friday. I think the AC needs to be refilled. It turns on, but isn't blowing very cold air. All in all, wear seemed pretty good for a 13 year old vehicle. I ended up paying $5750. I feel it was a pretty good price.

All I really want to do now is add front and rear bumpers, sliders, winch, a roof rack and some lights. I'll also eventually put some lockers in as well.

Here's some pics of it. I'll post more pics when I get the new tires and wheels installed.

Welcome.

I know you were hunting a while, about the same time I was. Glad to see you hooked it up. Nice 40th!

I will soon be posting a similar thread...it gets picked up Wed. (tomorrow) and shipped to ABQ, NM where I pick it up on Thursday. Can't wait to post my own newb thread.

Good luck with the new acquire

Looks good, good price to.

That is a decent price welcome to OCD Land.
At least you already have a lift.

I seem to be missing it. Is that a 40th? I don't see the right paint job, or the two tone seating? Nice 80 either way.... :)

Congrats to you too. I'd have a hard time waiting, but it would be like Christmas day as a child when it finally arrives.

I'm going down to Portland this weekend for a birthday party, and I'm already trying to figure out a way to make time to swing by Metal Tech.

Tires and wheels will be in no later than Friday, and I can't wait. I'll get some pics up once they're on.

I went and goofed around in the dirt with my brother who has a locked 93 FZJ80, and I'm pretty jealous of how much more capable those lockers make it. Lockers are definitely going to be up there on the list of things to get.

I was wondering about the 40th, also - no fender badges and 2 tone seats?

Hmmm...

I guess the guy that sold me the truck was blowing smoke. It really doesn't bother me because it's not like I was searching for a 40th. I just hope he wasn't BSing me about everything.

He prob. thought all 97's were "40th" anniversary rigs and didn't know it was a special edition....sometimes a LESS knowledgeable seller is a good thing though.
AS long as he or she was taking it to a mechanic...

Yeah, no 40th in the two tone paint scheme either. Nice truck. Congrats..

Pete

Ok, the 40th was my bad. I've been looking at so many land cruisers, somewhere along the way I was thinking the seller told me this was a 40th. I was looking at another one that was a 40th. My wife straightened me out.

Tires and wheels will be here tomorrow. Can't wait for that. Pics will be up as soon as I get them.

GREAT PRICE for a maintained lifted 80 WITH lockers!!!

Glad you have wheels coming... those triangles are brutal.

Congrats and welcome!

Actually no lockers. I do want to get some though at some point. You are right, those wheels are awful. They were probably really cool back in 2000 or whenever it was they bought it, but not now for sure.

I took those hippie stickers off too. It was pretty embarrasing to drive it home with those stickers.

The tire shop better be calling me today. When I bought them, they told me the tires and wheels will be in Friday (today) at the latest. I sure hope they don't let me down.

Welcome :flipoff2:

I kinda like that two tone colour! As far as the 40th thing goes, maybe you were confusing it with a Collector's Edition version?

As far as dropping by Metal Tech.... DOOOO ITT! They make nice stuff!

Here's the new BFG KM2's and wheels. The center caps didn't come in for some reason. So I just had them mount them and the tire shop will put on the center caps whenever they get in.

Now to get some protection.

And yes, the sun does shine in Washington, at times. I'm loving my new ride.
