Clear lake.

Yeaaaaah we made it

202DD1AE-4C65-45EF-9D0B-9E13AC10A2CF.jpeg

Only took us 4 hours, we’re no pros and marlboros are our friends

5E737964-8B35-4287-B175-18CCB9205CEE.jpeg

what we thought was gonna take an hour and maybe 4 stops turned into 4 hours and climbing on our hands and knees. It ended up being 2k feet of elevation change.

the landcruisers now just a tiny dot

The back side of clear lake, well worth the climb to get to the view. Just take a long afternoon to do it

wouldn’t mind doing it again this SAS

Fj summit Xl, last year was my first and it was a great success, well fuel pump went out on black bear and had to trailer home but it didn’t turn me off. So had to bring a bunch of friends out and come back again next year.

Pretty sure I was the only carburetor at this whole event.

These mountain pass views, pretty much every single one of these passes holds a special place in my heart and always leaves me longing to get back to each and every one.

Also felt like we were the youngest “group” there

Governors Basin and what’s left of the refinery.

FE9E3819-4BC4-457C-82FD-CB07632C1E48.jpeg

Crazy to think they built all these structures for work that only lasted less than 10years. A lot of time and money went into building these mines and poof one day they all dried up and shut down.

Luckily this one was still standing and we got a chance to see history up close and personal.

Absolutely love these views, slightly jealous of the miners who got to see them every day.

BDEF8DFB-F751-4AC3-87DC-E033D2CEA4D5.jpeg

This refinery has held up rather well, no avalanches had taken it out yet in almost the 100 years it had been sitting there

Last I have herd, snow and nature finally won and it’s now a pile of sticks again mostly. Plan on checking it out more this year and see what’s really left for myself.

love this basin and it’s views.

Great Pics! Looks like a good time. Love hunting around old mines, hard hard life back then.

One of my most favorite of time, cruiser and good people in a great place.
Hard to ask for better.

we have grown more adventurous with our mine exploring but you got to start somewhere and this is a great place too!

And now the fun begins

Soooo close! past gunnison, road work Put a halt to the awesome time I was making.

Captain hind sight would have cut off towards lake city and taken the alpine loop in but guess we learn.

Just a sampling of the first year

was a little nervous, I knew no one and was riding solo.

but I did know the area after x2 FJ Summit events and I knew the rigs were all gonna be old like me so should be a good time right 🥳

A fellow Midwesterner, didn’t know cruisers came from the Midwest, also stoked they showed this has turned out to be one of my best wheeling buddies and spend a lot of time of the trail with bydge and his family

THE G.O.A.T.
Just one time in your life everyone must go wheeling with John.... don’t know how he is not famous with that voice and word choice. John! Get a radio station or a pod cast for all of us already!!!

Thanks @Jason hansen for letting me crash at your door step, captain hindsight let me know that I forgot to book lodging, luckily I crash in my rig and don’t have a huge footprint but I still need somewhere to park.

Year one starting off pretty damn swell like!

Two legends right there.

Poughkeepsie!

396670D5-4D98-48CD-8AA6-2100492ED8CB.jpeg

It was wet and rainy and things were getting slick and adventurous.

9E175E92-BCD0-4BF1-A843-6DDD1BFBE084.jpeg

Jason was the only one who had been up the wall and didn’t think we were gonna have good luck without winching since it was so wet.

AB0BCDF0-BCD9-478B-A965-277DF3285232.jpeg

😬 guess who is the only rig in the party without a winch! 🥳🥳

it’s gonna be a good day of wheeling 🤞

Well it was a slick one for sure

E326D260-3E0E-402B-A5D0-7787B050DFD6.jpeg

Well I tried to take the bypass
A8D0D662-B137-4FD3-9C41-4BDE50371C14.jpeg

Then got stuck 3/4 of the way up, lost all power in the 2f trying to climb the bypass at 12k feet
8B042544-DF7D-4B0E-9E69-C014455F869A.jpeg

So now I sit till the crew with winches can get up and pull me the rest of the way up
2EE965A5-633D-4199-BD06-CBB9F5F5C8A8.jpeg

Not sure who’s idea it was to take the bypass but a couple of us did. All but one had to winch up it and the bypass was way worse than taking the wall itself.

i get why it’s been fenced off since then, just climb the wall

Poughkeepsie eh? Yeah, that ’bypass’ is no easier than the wall.

Well, I’ve got experience being winched up the bypass. You too as I remember.🤦🏼‍♀️🙉🙈

Fun and learning experience yes, shall I do it again? Nay nay my friend

I’m ok with sketchy and butthole puckering but that one I need not to do again

Yeah me too. It’s funny, we don’t like sketchy and we don’t like the pucker factor…but we always go back for more. We are odd ducks it seems.🦆🦆🦆

Well with the help of some pretty good people we all made it up and over Poughkeepsie

👆👇 no idea what this lakes name is, but it’s a great stopping point after the wall, I find myself enjoying this spot more than the wall itself. Also one of the best lunch spots around, the wall usually takes some time and by the time you get here and take in the amazing views your ready for lunch

I have flown through clouds and I have driven in fog. Can’t say I have been high enough to drive through the clouds so this was a pretty big first awesomeness adventure for me.

A whole lot of firsts happening today for a lot of the clan

Step one we climb.

8F951DBA-5A46-49D4-B18D-A6E4D10D124D.jpeg

first we have some fun and take the washout up

736A4C6D-3C0F-425A-9E44-07B909316793.jpeg

Almost everyone made it up the washout no problem. Pretty sure we had almost every make out on this run

A couple of the pretty ones took the bypass up and around the washout. No judging, they have adventures ahead anyways
