@TonyP, I notice the smell when I put MFCs in the back of the 200 after topping a bunch off, but the Rotopax I could never tell. My MFCs are all pretty much brand new though. Maybe they need a good coat of spray paint, sand, and sweat to hold the crap in?

Could be. I may have over tightened them since I had the special wrench when using for personal use. When using them in the usual sandy, dirty and non-personal situations, they rarely were tightened properly anyways so they always smelled like diesel

It’s not the ambient air temp that heats up the fuel, it’s the pressure caused by the fuel trying to expand that heats it up, and eventually causes it to boil.

I’ve vented my rotopax several times before and after without that issue but I was on my way to Telluride when I stopped to vent and was shocked that the fuel was bubbling and spraying out with the cap loosened so much. Since then I now vent VERY slowly

I had filled the bottle at near sea level .. full and then headed up to Big Bear at about 7k elevation .. and the pressure difference was too much for it. Good thing it wasn't near an exhaust pipe. Now .. 3/4 if going up the mountains.

Your propane tank and valve should NOT do that if filled to a proper 80%.Those valves are mainly to assist in proper filling of the tank...not to release flammable gas every time someone drives up i70 to 10k... I’d Talk to your filler, or see a place that specializes in propane only and let them inspect...see what they say.

That is what they said .. the tanks are designed that way. That fitting with the bleed screw is also an over pressure valve. and they no longer fill them to the top any longer, unless it's a special request.

I ended up buying 2 brand new Tan Scepter’s through a tip from a mud member (pic below). I should get them in the mail Tuesday. Based off this thread I assume mine have the rubber gasket for Diesel, so I’ll need to swap out for the Viton gasket. If I woulda seen your post 1st I probably woulda have bought from this guy as I coulda gotten the olive with red that’s already for gasoline. Thanks for sharing. @TonyP good tip on the wrench, I’ll order that too. The donkey dick you showed, where can I pick that up?

Amazon for the donkey dick, I believe. Possibly eBay. One of those two. When you get it I recommend hose clamping the dick portion of the donkey dick on the cap portion. Mine had some terrible glue that came undone the first time I used it. Hose clamp has been holding strong for a couple of years.

The gasket takes 10 seconds to swap, just pop the lid holder thing off (can be tough), swap the gasket, pop back on, enjoy.

FWIW, I run one of these and it works great.

One common confusion with the Scepter spouts is that people think they're broken if you get some drips out the vent holes. These are designed to allow for air to come back in. When you tip the can you will get a few drops until negative pressure develops inside the can. To minimize, don't be ginger about it; invert the can completely and quickly and you'll minimize drips.

A friend has a sleeve for his, but I've not yet found one. Would love to have one to keep it dirt/dust free in the truck.

Yes, the reference was to the large Donkey appliance size, There are several other fill spouts that are slightly smaller and should fit.

I would definitely try taking the truck out to dinner, buying some flowers, and a few nice bottles of wine. That will definitely help with getting your downspout down the throat!

The caps are can color, the tether is color-coded on civilian cans. Red for gasoline, yellow for diesel. There may be a kerosene color as well. Military cans have can-color tethers and can be swapped for color-coded versions. Of course the color code is only meaningful if you fill the can to match. All my MFCs (10 of them) have viton gaskets and sometimes they have diesel in them, sometimes gas.

After living for several years with these cans under various conditions I will use nothing else.

any way to tell if the cans i get have the viton vs the rubber? They are tan with tan caps and straps. i havent seen in person yet, they are in transit now
