Was looking at The JDM Aux fan but it seems like they are 340-350 bucks now. Anyone know of a comparable version? I don't mind to make a bracket, just trying to help cool the A/C and assist with trail heat.
JDM part # 88590-60010

But am fine going with something CFM comparable

Do you have a part number for it?

Best cooling system upgrade is beefing up the fan clutch. I am running one of the JDM fans. Quick and easy install, but you can fit a bigger, cheaper 14/15" aftermarket fan in there with a little fab work.
After tinkering with it and watching temps on scan gauge, I have found that it really only provides noticeable benefit when ground speeds are slow and rpm are low/ around 2000 or less.

Cooling system is new and working fine, I am looking to just keep my AC colder while meandering along the trail. If it helped cool the motor some great, but haven't had that issue yet.
Have the blue OEM fan clutch. What mod are you talking about?

Got a link? You mean the fluid little coil?

The 100 series fan will work. Almost certain that's what is in my buddies 80

This is what I did. Fits easy some brackets necessary.

I agree with @inkpot, fan clutch first. Then put the biggest CFM fan you care to fit out front. I would go bigger than the 100 series fan of I did it again.

Here's what I did:

AUXILIARY FAN
Wanted to install an aux fan in front of the condenser in order to help with the AC when it's 110º outside and I'm in stop-n-go traffic. Last time it was this hot the AC sucked and would blow out warm air. Hope this helps a bit. If not, I'll need to figure out something else. A radiator might also be next on the list.

Bought a Procomp 2053-S fan on eBay for about $40 and followed this great write-up: Pro Comp 14" Aux Fax Install - '97 LX450

I didn't follow it exactly, but it was a good help. I only removed the horns, nothing else. Just trimmed, hacked and bent stuff away until the damn thing fit.

Like a glove

Spacers and longer bolts for the horn mounts so it clears the fan

Wired up to a relay on my super-custom relay mount bar :flipoff2: Make sure to reverse the polarity of the fan wires so it blows fan INTO the condenser and not away from it

Fan has its own fuse in my aux fuse box. ******* I love this little box. Makes your life so much easier.

Wired up to a toggle switch in the dash. I want to be able to manually turn the fan on and off. The switch is powered only with the key in the ACC, so it can't run when the keys aren't in the ignition.

Most of the threads in the '80s forum have lots of confusion, side arguments. This one is pretty clean, about mini truck, but the concept (other than fill amount) is the same. Fan Clutch Service

So if I ponied up and did this to a brand new one it will help keep things cool. Doesn't seem too bad and if I buy another I would be able to stay on the road while I did it.

I bought 2 12" fans off Amazon for 100 bucks each don't know the name but they have a 2000 cfm rating I tied them into my rear defogger relay since I don't need that here in Arizona the relay is located in the driver side kick panel

I think I am going to go with something a little bigger like some of the other suggestions above. Will be wiring it to a switch so I can have it on on the trail and off when needed. I also will be looking at doing the fluid swap on the fan clutch soon. Didn't know that made such a difference. I love this forum... I am almost to 300K and with this place I think I could go another 300 more.

I wired mine to an auto/off/on switch using the rear heat switch.

Auto is tied directly to the battery, grounded by the AC pressure switch. So it will run until the condenser is cool.
On is on with ignition.

Similar but not exactly like this wiring diagram.

I have a new aqua green clutch with 30,000 oil that made the biggest difference.the electric fans only help a small amount I hardly use them my fan clutch keeps my 80 cool even in 110 degree heat

You care to share a link so I can check them out? Never heard of an aqua fan clutch
