The aqua green clutch is aisin fct-049 and was standard on a 92 with the 3Fe it has a lot more shearing force than the blue hub ,with the 30,000 oil and the swash plate adjustment I made to it it roars like a jet on takeoff.

Fan arrived today. Still planning on doing fan clutch mod To a new clutch. So the aqua is stock off a 3fe? Then do the 30k fluid swap? Will that bolt up the the 1fz? No clearance issues?

Is this the right fan clutch?

The mounting/spacing differs between the 3fe & 1fz, so the clutches don't interchange. There is no need, there are good clutches for the 1fz, the black hub is the same as the aqua.

What is the part number for the black clutch?

I bought all of the parts to do jcardona's aux fan mod, but decided to mod the fan clutch first just to see how big a difference it would make. I may still do the aux fan eventually, but the fan clutch mod made a huge difference for me.

I went with 20k weight oil in a blue aisin fan, and it's been a night and day difference in AC and engine performance this summer as compared to last. I'm in stop and go traffic and my AC is blowing cold, and engine temps are about 10 - 15 deg cooler on avg. I'm in the Atlanta area, so similar climate to you.

One big bit of advice when doing the swap is to make sure to use a #3 philips screwdriver to brake loose the fan clutch screws, otherwise you'll almost surely strip at least a couple. Ask me how I know. Best of luck in getting this sorted out--it's definitely a mod worth pursuing.

Great to know!
Have you ever considered hood vents? As I am looking at all this cooling and AC preventative work I keep considering hood vents as a way to release trapped heat. Thoughts?

I haven't personally, but there are more than a few threads on that subject too. Others may be able to chime in on their experience with hood vents. I think a lot of the people that have gone that route have done so after adding forced induction. I think you'll be surprised at how the fan clutch mod will help.

as a completely unrelated mention, i'm a carson newman alum. hope jeff city is still the same ol place it used to be.

There likely was one, but doesn't matter what it is, they are not available new. What is on your rig, the original one was a black hub, if so, put ~10K cst in it and drive happy.

Jeff city hasn't changed much. I have worked at CN for the last 10 years. When were you here?

I believe I still have the OEM clutch in the garage. I figured it was toast. So I can just use to to replace the oil?

Mod it just like the blue clutch but use 10,000 cat silicone, as it has much more shearing surface available than the newer blue unit.
