These were the best 3 pics I could find that I took of that area prior to dis-assembly. It looks as thought the tub was damm near sitting on the high point of the frame. You can see those cross members on the bottom of the tub that have those pads fastened to them.

I am hoping for a little help here.

Can anyone with a 82 to 84 troopy get this measurement? Looking for the measurement center to center in these pics. top holes are where the cable goes through the firewall. Bottom hole is the top mount for the pedal.

Thanks in adavance.

Kinda off topic, but not to much, figured I would let you guys know what I'm doing so you don't think I'm slacking on the troopy.

Wife and I went to see Aaron Lewis, lead singer of Staind last night. Doing these small acoustic solo gigs. If you ever have the opportunity to see this guy live I highly recomend it...absolutely awesome!!

Got a little time in on the troopy today. Set the hardtop sides on for fun, but not bolted down. Bolted the rear x member above the ambulance doors in to hold it together. Also bolted the x member of the door, see if that was going to line up. There were some brackets aqualu sent, not sure what all of them are for, but I think I figured this one out. Replaces the inner bracket that bolts to the stock windshield. I believe theres must screw to the inside of the windshield frame? Not going to run any screws into yet until I get the top bolt down. Make sure everything is in it's happy place.

Bolted in the steering column today as well. I wanted to do that to make sure that the tub lined up with the steering box? One of those things with anything aftermarket that could go good well, or not. Thank fully everything lined up pretty well. I had to loosen the clamp on rag joint ont he gear box. It was about 3/8" of an inch short of butting up against the steering column. I slid it out on the spline, still plenty of clamp on the splined shaft.

By the way, the steering box was quickly sandblasted a while back and foo foo can primered just to clean it up. It will be blasted again and painted with the good stuff.

G'day Matt,

So you're not going to do the factory LHD power steering after all?

Does it look as if the factory LHD windscreen frame would bolt up to the Aqualu cowl if one wanted to do that, or do you have to use the aluminium one with the Aqualu cowl?

This is looking really nice.

Cheers,

Josh

Power steering isn't in the plan right now, although that could change...you just never know.

You have to use Aqualu's windscreen frame with there tub, only way that will work.

I will check tonight. No problem. But isn't the firewall the same on an 81 FJ40? Or do those have different throttle pedals?

81 FJ40 has a throttle linkage where the 84 HJ47 has a throttle cable.

Sweet...

There's two more of his previous builds stickied at the top of this forum ;)

Crap! Completely forgot about this.:o

Some measurements then.

From the top left bolt of the throttle cable to the bottom bolt of the throttle pedal i measure 160mm (~6.3") Straight down.

From the top right bolt to the top bolt of the throttle it's 75mm (~3") but offset to the right by 15mm (~0.6").

I measured from the centres of the bolts.
No camera handy. Sorry.

BTW. This is on a LHD BJ45. I'm not sure if the BJ and HJ share the same pedals.

Haven't posted anything in a while, since I haven't worked on the troopy lately. :) It's summer, just lots of other stuff going on.

Anyway, I managed to get a couple hours today while everyone in the house was taking a nap. Nothing major or exciting. Drilled a few holes in the firewall, managed to get the brake booster and clutch cylinder bolted up. I also started pulling a few more parts out of my 79 FJ40. Needed the Left had drive heater, fan and misc. parts. I started marking everything out on the aluminum firewall, but didn't get far enough to start cutting holes.

As the summer winds down, hoping to be able to start getting more time on the troopy.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the info! I have another question for you, is there anyway you could get a picture of that area?

Reason I ask is that if you look at the area on the aluminum tub where I have install the pedal, it would essentially land in the area of the steering column flange on the firewall. I will take a pic of the pedal assembly tonight, but even if I cut and reversed the shaft that the pedal rotates on that wouldn't work either ...it would be to far the right and land on the angled area of the firewall.

I am wondering if there was a completely different pedal assembly for the LHD models now?

Matt

Managed to spend about an hour out in the shop tonight, more or less studying a few things trying to figure some stuff out. First few pics are of the brake and clutch lines I pulled out of my 79 parts rig. I think they should work well with a few mods. The brake master cylinder obvoiusly was different on the 79 than the troopy. The front line on the 79 went in from the top, where the troopy went in from the side. More than likely cut it, bend it side ways and re-flare it. Few of the firewall clamps I don't think will work out because of the bends in the aluminum tub. Other than that, should be fine with some minor massaging.
