I think i'll move my VW to the driveway and put my LC in the street....

Doesn't look to bad though. Depending on what you do with the truck hopefully it gets totaled you can fix it yourself (bodywork isn't rocket science) make it a dedicated off-road vehicle and get yourself another rig. But really it doesnt' look all that bad. I think you are going to be fine.

It looks like that is plan A. I do plan on keeping it as my DD though, whether it's totalled or not.

I have a friend who works for a local body shop, and who can work after hours for friends/family.

Regardless if it gets totalled or not, the plan is to take the cash and cut off the rear quarters (both sides, I suppose, so it matches :p ) right below where the rear body cladding ends (where the bumper cover would go). Weld in a new bottom, and I'm ready for a nice high clearance bumper.

This will make it easier to straighten out the quarter panel, and simply cut out the worst of the damage instead of trying to fix it. Plus, truth be told, I've always been a bit disappointed in the departure angle, so this will really improve it.

Kinda like what the 60's guys do for rust....except without the rust.

Good thing there wasnt someone standing there! Good luck Ebag

I had some punk doing donuts on the ice in front of my 60. He bent the already crappy stock bumper and took off. My neighbor saw it and I tracked him down through his friend. He actually told me that he was going to get his insurance info, that's why he didn't come to the door. Anyway, I actually didn't care that much but I do have a 7 year old running around so when he started to turn into a real A hole about it, I told him to come back with 200 bucks and we wouldn't need to talk to johnny law (paid for a rear end). Too my great surprise, it worked out although he was actually threatening me to call the cops at one point? He had just gotten a dui the week before as well. Not the sharpest tack. It's tough on the road. I put my babies in the driveway, but some of them do end up parked in the danger zone. Good luck. The 60 was actually protecting a 40 from just such an event.

cell phone driving = driving while under the influence

That's all I'm gonna say. Oh, and that's the reason I don't park on the street, but not everyone has that option. Talking on the cell is definitely optional.

Glad your rig is not in worse shape and the culprit was located.

Gabe, sorry to see the carnage.

As noted by most above it looks like an excellent opportunity to get a high-clearance bumper setup with some quarter panel protection. Hopefully all of the damage is superficial. Thankfully the ditz did not hit the bus full of kids, a cyclist, etc.

Reminds me of the bumper sticker "Hang-Up and DRIVE".

Ouch!!! Best wishes on repairs. Hey that lady coulda wound up in some one's living room if it wasn't for your 80. Just a positive thought from a voly company fireman.

Sorry to hear about the accident, and about the hit-and-run.

Glad they caught the B!!

Hope your O.K.

About 4,500 bucks worth of damage.

Ooh, now it's all starting to make sense. I've known some REAL classless people who have and are still driving that generation of Pathfinder. Seriously.

X2 is it only dirt bags that drive pathfinders now

Man, no Pathfinder love here eh? I have a bit of a soft spot for them, as it was the truck that got me interested in this sort of stuff (a 96 R50 actually ;)). However, Nissan designers/engineers can't hold a candle to Toyota when it comes to making something easy to work on. I mean c'mon, who put a thermostat is the middle of a V engine, behind all three belts and a ton of hoses? And then puts the tensioner for the PS pump at an impossible angle so you have to use a gear wrench in 10* increments. Arggggh.

Sorry Ebag (again). At least she didn't hit your purdy new exhaust!

Was wondering when you'd chime in with a damage estimate.

Does that include the potential damage to the steering?

This is a good case to add some bumpers. I recently got hit from behind and the damage was minor compared to the guy who totaled his explorer. You will like the added benefit of having your spare out from under your rig.

Dang. I would take it to Jim Nickels or have the adjuster come out.. Great work and my last car got totalled, bought it back and got it on the road for $400 vs. over $2k in repairs and some $$$. Expect a little bit of resistance from the insurance co. and make sure you get what you want. You might be able to use the insurance $$ to upgrade some parts like a rear bumper.. Keep us posted.

Steering wheel is cocked over about 15* to drivers side. (Drives straight and true, nothing obviously bent in the front end.)

Steering: check the pitman arm and the sector shaft closely. They have been known to get bent with an impact on one of the front tires. Your tie rod ends, drag link and tie rod might also be tweaked.

So checked the sector shaft today. Sure enough, it's twisted. Can just barely see the top of the splines, but it's enough to tell it's been tweaked.

Guess I'm upgrading to the 105 series sector shaft and pitman arm.

Sorry to hear that. Make sure that goes on your insurance claim. You might get a whole new steering box out of the deal. If you do the rebuild/upgrade of your steering box, would you mind doing a write up on it with lots of pretty pictures for us visual folks? :D

Better add a bit more to that number....
